Belinda McCarthy – Somerset, UK and International Wedding Photography

I have to admit that I’m about to celebrate an anniversary and it’s a pretty special one because I’ve been writing for Love My Dress for a year now. And what a year it’s been – a new look Love My Dress, award ceremonies, Annabel’s very special birthday, wedding shows, hotel reviews, bridal fashion events and much much more. I’ve also written well over one hundred features introducing you to fantastic designers and wonderful suppliers, some of whom were new to me and some whose names I’ve known. Today, I’m really happy to be able to tell you more about the fabulous wedding photographer, Belinda McCarthy, someone whose work has made me smile for years…

Based in Somerset, Belinda McCarthy works to the motto ‘have cameras, will travel’ and she does just that, roaming the UK and Europe photographing beautifully charming weddings. Given Belinda’s background, it was almost inevitable that she would build a career recording and capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments.

“I’ve been involved with photography since I was a child as my father ran a photography and broadcasting business,” says Belinda. “So as a teenager you’d often find me filming rally cars, vintage steam engines or even pop videos! I originally wanted to train as a director or cinematographer but I had to go and get a ‘proper’ job. However, my love of cinematography and particularly stills imagery continued with me and about ten years ago, I finally had the opportunity to set up my own business.”

Belinda started her photographic business to cover both personal and commercial work but she fell in love with weddings (don’t we all?) and decided to concentrate on the area she finds to be super satisfying and happily creative.

I, like so many others, am incredibly glad that Belinda chose to specialise as a wedding photographer because her relaxed, informal and genuine photography is utterly brilliant. I adore the light filled images but most of all, I can’t take my eyes off of the people in the images.

“For the majority of a wedding, I love to shoot in what I’d describe as a highly emotive style,” explains Belinda. “I truly believe that wedding days should be documented, not directed, and that my job as a wedding photographer is to quietly capture a whole series of wonderful, beautiful moments without intrusion.”

“Weddings are for celebrating with your family and friends, not for spending hours with your wedding photographer and standing in a series of endless line-ups! I aim to capture what makes your wedding special, what makes it unique, what makes it beautiful and to document the joy, the laughter, the emotions and everything that goes into making your wedding day unforgettable.”

Belinda is inspired by classic cinematography and you can certainly see those influences in her work, in the shots themselves and in the edits. Her fine art style and individual approach to portraiture means that you’ll be rewarded with wedding photographs that will stand the test of time and look as good in thirty years as they do now.

“My clients tell me I have a special knack of putting people at their ease and this is really important to me,” says Belinda. “I want everyone to enjoy the experience as well as creating wonderful images. Couples portraiture is also a key part of my wedding photography so let’s capture some gorgeous shots of you, sharing your love and happiness that you’ll cherish forever.”
