Shanna Melville – Romantic and Feminine, Bespoke Handmade Wedding Gowns

Well hello and welcome to another week. I hope you had the loveliest of weekends and that Monday is being kind to you so far. Mondays can sometimes feel like a bit of a shock to the system so let me tempt you to take some time out to view some absolutely beautiful wedding dresses. I’m so happy that you can join me to meet designer Shanna Melville and her delightful bespoke bridal gowns.

Shanna Melville has been designing couture bridal gowns for over twelve years. She studied fashion design at college but it was only after her own engagement and the ensuing hunt for the perfect wedding dress that she discovered her true passion and eye for design in bridal couture.

“It’s here, during a series of private appointments, that I help brides to find their perfect gown. I carry out all the creative consultations and fittings myself and I’m involved in every step of the process – from planning and design to the finished creation.”

“I spent a lot of time learning,” says Shanna. “I worked with two established wedding designers before setting up my own boutique in Wimbledon Village in 2007. “

Shanna’s gowns are proudly ‘Made in London’ and in fact, they’re all handmade in the workshop of the Wimbledon boutique by a small but highly skilled team of artisans and seamstresses. Each gown can take up to sixty hours to make as the delicate and complex beadwork requires care, attention and immense skill to complete.

“Each and every gown is a labour of love but good design is often akin to slow design – something that is beautifully handcrafted is usually worth waiting for! A wedding dress is one of the biggest and most important purchases a woman will make in her lifetime so I work very closely with my clients to ensure that their vision and dream of the perfect dress becomes a touchable, wearable reality.”

Shanna’s designs experiment with shapes and styles and I adore how different all of the gowns are. There’s certainly a very romantic aesthetic to the collection however and these beautiful gowns with their classical, feminine lines just won’t date. Wedding gowns from Shanna Melville really are timeless. They’re also indulgently luxurious and heavenly to wear:

“I’m highly particular about the fabrics I use too,” says Shanna. “I will only ever work with the best fabrics where the quality speaks for itself. My favourite fabric at the moment is Italian printed silk organza and it features quite prominently in my current collection. It’s a stunning fabric that’s very tactile, feels great against the skin and seems to take on a life of its own when worn with its lightness and free flowing movement.”

I have absolutely fallen for Shanna Melville’s bridal gowns. The scalloped lace, the amazing beadwork and embellishments, the choice of shapes and silhouettes, the simple yet glamorous look of the gowns and the incredible attention to detail and the way that the gowns are so elegant yet so confident. These are certainly designs that any woman would love to wear.

“What I strive for is to fashion a gown that flatters the figure and enhances natural beauty like no other garment. Marriage is a rite of passage and the dress is not just a symbol of this life-changing event, it’s also very expressive of an individual’s taste, style and identity. My job is to interpret this into something that is both beautiful and wearable.”
