Grace Loves Lace for a Pretty Yorkshire Village Wedding Celebrating Two Cultures

Hello there lovely people. I do hope you’ve had a wonderful start to July and that those of you in the final throes of wedding planning are feeling excited and not too overwhelmed with table plans, orders of service and last-minute decorations (or is that just me?)!

This morning’s wedding blog feature is a beautiful celebration of two people, two families and two cultures. Bride Nikita, an air stewardess originally from New Zealand, married David, a Londoner who moved to Yorkshire and now works in property development, on 2nd April this year.

The couple’s wedding theme was the English rose and the New Zealand fern, and the nuptials were all about celebrating heritage, family and love… with a large dose of style thrown in for good measure.

“My gorgeous flower crown was custom made by Georgie from Beauxoxo along with two of my bridesmaids who wore combs which matched my crown. My maid of honour and sister wore flower crowns by Rock n Rose.”

Bauxoxo“My bridesmaids’ dresses were gifted by a wonderful friend who owns the clothes line Oh My Love.

Nikita’s flowing lace gown is by Australian designer Grace Loves Lace.

“It was unique, different and what I wanted from a dress. I always wanted something backless and flowing. The English roses topped off my decision.

The bride and groom gifted each other fragrance to wear on the big day. Nikita chose Dior Homme for David, and David opted for Chanel Mademoiselle for Nikita.

David wore three piece tweed suit from Next with a pocket square and socks from Barbour. The groomsmen wore the same outfit, with Zara chinos instead of tweed trousers.

The ceremony was held at Cruck Barn in Appletreewick, a spectacular barn nestled in the Yorkshire Dales. The party continued with pies and cocktails (what a fab combination!) at the village hall in Appletreewick.

Sarah Folega of Folega Photography, who we have featured on Love My Dress before, captured these gorgeous photographs.

“Where to start with the wonderful Sarah Folega. our photos are even better then what we imagined or hoped for. it captured our day in the most natural way and beautiful way possible and natural unstaged photos is exactly what what we were after. We wanted our photos to capture the day down to every laugh tear dance and fall (after a few wines of course ). It was a pleasure to have Sarah shoot the biggest day of our lives and we still keep in touch with her and hope to for good.”

“Our wedding ceremony was personally written by Jan Shillito who by total coincidence turns out lived a few doors down from us! Our ceremony was totally unique to us and it was great that so many people said how personal the ceremony was to us.”

The flowers, incorporating the New Zealand fern and English rose, were put together by a colleague from Nikita’s work in simple but elegant greens and creams.

The décor was filled with lots of lovely DIY touches.

“We decorated the rustic setting of Cruck Barn with only milk bottles, gypsophila and the wedding flowers. Nikita made our wonderful table plan with step ladders potted plants and small chalk boards.”

“The village hall was decorated with paper balls, bunting and table cloths mainly bought from eBay! We also used jars, lace, kilner jars and kilner drinks dispensers for cocktails.”

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“Make the day as personal to you as you can, the little bits really make the day feel more special and not part of a standardised system as some weddings I’ve been to do”

Bauxoxo

I  completely agree with those words of wisdom and it’s one of the most wonderful things about the weddings we feature on Love My Dress! Each one is personal and unique – and no less so than Nikita and David’s beautiful, heartfelt day. Huge congratulations to you both, and thank you to your marvellous photographer Sarah Folega of Folega Photography for allowing us to share these images today.
