Having been sharing beautiful weddings on this blog for over five and a half years now, I’ve have come to develop a soft spot for a core of suppliers whose work I simply love and adore. I count Scotland based photographer Caro Weiss amongst them – I’ve been sharing Caro’s work since 2010 and it’s been an absolute joy watching her business and talent grow in this time.
To me, these images taken by Caro represent really great wedding photography. It helps, I know, that the couple are incredibly good looking and the details are so beautiful, but it’s the moments captured – the smiles, gestures, glances and laughter, that make it for me. Caro was commissioned by Scientist Fiona and Architect Aaron to document their wedding at Dunkeld, Scotland on 16th May this year. The couple tied the knot via a ceremony at St. Columba’s R.C. Church in Birnam and celebrated through a reception at Eastwood House.

“We didn’t really have a particular theme or colour scheme in mind but took a lot of our inspiration from the venue and the surrounding countryside.”

“We wanted the day to feel informal, relaxed and fun! We weren’t too bothered about everything matching or having a really strict timeline to the day.”
Fiona’s absolutely beautiful dress was the Olsen design by Rime Arodaky, which she purchased from The Mews Notting Hill.
“I always knew I didn’t want a big white dress or anything strapless – I was so glad when I found The Mews in Notting Hill – they have an amazing selection of dresses from several French Designers.”

“We hired Caro Weiss to shoot our wedding and we couldn’t have wished for better. Caro is amazing, her photos are wonderful and she knew perfectly how to capture the atmosphere of the day. Her relaxed style really helped put us and our guests at ease.”
“We didn’t hire an event planner but got a lot of help from our family and friends – they all did such an amazing job over the whole weekend.”
“Aaron and I met in Newcastle. Aaron is originally from the North East and I moved here for work a couple of year ago (from Glasgow). We were together for two years when Aaron proposed on holiday and got married seven months later!”
“I’m originally from Scotland and my parents live in Dunkeld so we decided to start looking at venues in Perthshire – I loved the idea of leaving from my parents’ house in the morning to go to the church.”
“I walked down the aisle to Neil Gow’s ‘Major Graham of Inchbrakie’ played by local musicians Pete Clark and Ron Shaw.”
“We had a church ceremony so our vows were very traditional. We also had two readings, The first reading ‘Love is strong as Death’ (Song of Songs 2: 8-10.14.16; 8:6-7) was read by Aaron’s sister, Andrea. The second reading was read by my Auntie Susan (Corinthians 13).”
“My ring is platinum and rose gold from Tiffany’s and Aaron’s is from The Jewellers Guild in Newcastle.”
“The dress I chose was the last one I tried on – I loved the long sleeves and open back and that the panels gave it a bit of a modern twist.”
“Our florists were the wonderful Pyrus who we couldn’t recommend enough! We didn’t give them much of a brief as we loved what they do and knew whatever they came up with would be great. I love the natural, wild look of the bouquets they create and that the flowers are locally grown.
The button holes for the guys were a work of art – they were made with beautiful foraged elements giving them a real woodland feel. Also have to mention my amazing flower crown with I loved so much. I was so sad taking it off – I wish I could wear one every day!”
“For the venue, we wanted to find somewhere relaxed and informal but also somewhere with a bit of freedom to do what we wanted. When we went to seeEastwood House, we knew straight way we had found our prefect venue.
The house is in an absolutely stunning location on the banks of the river Tay just outside Dunkeld. We loved that the house has such a romantic history (Beatrix Potter used to spend her summer holidays here) and the owners, Cat and Alex, have done such a great job of restoring/modernising the house whilst retaining a lot of the original features. It also meant our family and friends were able to stay in the house (and cottage) for the weekend.”
“We did very little in terms of decorating as the house was already done out with a great mixture of modern and traditional furnishings and decorations. We only added some small things here and there – blankets if people wanted to sit outside, blackboard with the order of the day, and a board with polaroid snaps that we had taken throughout the day.
Aaron’s Auntie also collected various vintage glasses for each guest to use throughout the day. We labelled each glass with the guests names and everyone could take their glass home at the end as a memento of the day.”
“Our caterers were Ginger Snap from Edinburgh and we opted for a buffet lunch rather than a formal sit down meal. We wanted everyone to mingle and eat as much or as little as they wanted.
The food they prepared was so fresh and delicious – they completely understood what we were after (something relaxed and informal). The sharing platters with Scottish charcuterie were a definite highlight!”
To decorate their venue, the couple hired colourful chairs, blackboards and crates from Virginias Vintage Hire.
“Pyrus, our florists, did a great job of dressing both the church and the house. We wanted something that reflected the natural beauty of the surroundings – by combining lots of woodland foliage and seasonal May blooms it really gave the feeling of bringing the ‘outdoors in’.”
“It’s so hard to pick one favourite moment! But it was lovely spending a whole day celebrating with all our family and friend in such a beautiful setting.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“Don’t stress and just enjoy the moment!! Not everything we planned went perfectly but nobody notices, on the day just forget about the details and enjoy the time with your family and friends – it goes by so fast!
Have a vision and see it through! We had a lot of persuading to do by not following the traditional formula for a wedding (no speeches, no first dance) but are so glad we stuck to our guns and didn’t doubt ourselves.”
Huge huge thanks to the wonderful Caro Weiss for sharing her most beautiful photography with us. Take a moment to see much more of Caro’s work on Love My Dress here – I truly cannot recommend her highly enough. Also our love and congratulations to the newlyweds Fiona and Aaron – you guys are one of the most stylish couple’s whose wedding we’ve shared – thank you so much guys, we truly are grateful for the opportunity to inspire our readers with your beautiful day.
