Hello there readers, and happy Friday to you! Today we have a lovely relaxed pub wedding with a stunning, 1960s inspired, Grace Loves Lace bride to help kick start your weekend. Jade and Sam tied the knot on the 12th of June 2015, underneath a floral arch overlooking a lake in the grounds of The Globe Pub in Alresford, Hampshire. Our couple, who opted for a Humanist ceremony, vowed to avoid anything matching and the result is a collection of beautifully dressed bridesmaids and flowergirls wearing mismatched dresses in pastel shades, eclectic travel inspired decor and wild unstructured florals.

I met Sam through his best Man Oli, who I used to work with. In the early days of our relationship we walked from Winchester to Brighton in two and a half days to raise money for Hampshire Air Ambulance (who saved my life after I was involved in a major car accident). Sam proposed six years later, on the same walk, in the beautiful setting of the South Downs. We had a year to plan the wedding and decided to marry on the same weekend as the weather had been so glorious.”

Jade purchased her 1960s inspired gown online from Australian label, Grace Loves Lace. Grace Loves Lace is renowned for its unique, free spirited, boho designs and Jade’s gown, ‘Inca’ is a beautiful example of their work.

Our bride asked her ten bridesmaids to choose their own gowns in pastel shades (“I hate matching!) and her super sweet flower girls wore mismatched pink dresses from Marks & Spencer.

I love the gown’s 60s inspired tailoring and the intricate pattern created by the fabulous combination of laces, which to my mind is reminiscent of the lawn dresses of the Edwardian era.

I loved the fact my gown was so different and elegant. I fell in love with the low back and the beautiful lace. I am a big fan of the 60s and it reminded me of the fashion of this era.”

Our bride paired her gown with simple nude heels and tiny pieces of gypsophila woven into her elegant back combed chignon.

My hair was done by Nic of Wispers. I wanted a relaxed up do with a 60s vibe and I was really pleased with the result! Nic made me feel incredibly relaxed and gave me a glass of fizz too. It was a lovely way to have an hour away from the craziness.”

I accessorised with a pair of ‘Maya’ pearl earrings from Grace Loves Lace and a sentimental ring that my dad had made for my 21st birthday. It was even more sentimental because my aunt gave me the stone set in it.”

Helen Spenser of Made Up did the make up for our big day. I came across Helen when I was a bridesmaid for a friend. I have since used her for any big event I have gone to. I know that I am safe with Helen and I can relax and enjoy it, in the knowledge that I will be happy and feel beautiful. “

The couple married outside in The Globe’s gardens, overlooking a lake, under an arch decorated with flowers. Jade’s dad walked her down the aisle to ‘First time I ever saw your face’ by Roberta Flack, performed live by Hampshire based band, The Who What Wheres.

We are not religious and we wanted to marry outside by the water so we opted for a humanist ceremony. We wrote our own promises and our friends and family chose their own readings- we didn’t hear them until the day which was a nice surprise. Our friend Charlotte read a poem written by my best friends about Sam and me and my aunt and uncle both read beautiful but also light hearted readings. Our friend George wrote us a song which he sung accompanied by his ukulele.”

Jade and Sam’s wedding was captured by London based, Italian photographer, Corrado Chiozzi.

Our photographer, Corrado, was recommended to me by a friend. We wanted relaxed and natural shots, capturing the atmosphere, so that we could relive how we felt on the day. Corrado exceeded our expectations; not only did he produce fantastic work for us (including funny, unrehearsed group shots) he was a joy to have with us on the day. Corrado is so professional and a really nice person too.”

Sam looked very handsome in a Navy Moss Brothers Suit complete with polka dot pocket square and a pale blue tie. The groom and his best men wore boutonnieres arranged by Wild Bunch Florists, with a friend of Jade’s grandma creating the bouquets.

My grandma has a friend who does flowers for the local church and she helped us with the beautiful flowers which we bought from the local wholesaler. We had avalanche roses, wild grass and gypsophila. My bridesmaids had a single rose each and the flower girls had a small bunch or a knitted teddy with gyp in it. All the flowers were very natural and unstructured – we had nothing too set or matching.”

Jade and Sam’s wedding breakfast was provided by The Globe and our couple opted for two ‘wedding cakes’, the first a cheese tower and the second a cake lovingly baked by Jade’s mum, decorated with a topper purchased from Izzy Pink.

Words of Wedded Wisdom:

Enjoy every second and be selfish – it is your day after all! Try not to get stressed about the silly things as on the day none of it matters. It’s easy to get swept up in the ‘wedding planning mentality’ trying to make everything perfect, but it’s the imperfections that make the day amazing.”

  1. What a fab idea for the (10!) bridesmaid dresses! And I just love my fellow Aussie Grace Loves Lace’s designs. Also love the choice of aisle walk song, one of my all-time faves. Congrats to the very happy couple 🙂 xxx
