Sarah Hannam shoots the most beautiful weddings, events and portraits on traditional film – she followed her passion after leaving her job and heading back to university to study for a degree in photography and then a Master of Fine Arts.

“I choose film because of its qualities and look and also how it makes me really focus on my practice,” explains Sarah. “I’m inspired by nature and luxury and love to bring those two elements into my work in a luminous and beautiful style.”

Sarah has not only captured all of those little looks that just make your heart melt but her exceptional use of light just brings something so incredibly special to these images.

Annabel has written recently about engagement shoots and explained eloquently why you should have one. For me, loving stories as I do, the reason for arranging your own shoot goes beyond the practicalities of getting to know your photographer or getting a great set of images before your wedding day.

The images for an engagement shoot, as so beautifully illustrated by Sarah Hannam, are part of your love story. They show you for who you are and they show you in love. You can choose a location that fits your personalities, you can wear clothes that you love and, for the duration of the shoot, you’re a couple in love.

When you look at the length of your life and the length of your time together, the period of simply ‘being engaged’ is fleeting and it’s easy to see it as a stepping-stone to being married rather than appreciating it for what it is. Celebrate that you’re together in that moment without always having your eyes, and attention on the next stage.

This is why we all adore Sarah Hannam’s engagement and portrait photography here at Love My Dress – she captures you, in the moment with care, sensitivity and consummate skill. Here film photography is luminous, radiant and elegant – she has an expert ability to work with light in a way that completely and entirely flatters her subjects.

Your wedding photography memorialises a moment that will never be repeated and so does an engagement or portrait session – you’re illustrating another page in your own story in the most exceptional way possible.

The couple pictured in this shoot are professional rugby player Andrew Fenby and his absolutely gorgeous fiancee Henni Bateman Williams.

“Andrew’s best man thought we’d be a great match so introduced us, despite the fact that I was living in London and Andrew was playing rugby 200 miles away in Wales! A few texts and calls later and Andrew made the journey to London for our first date.”

“I met Andrew at Paddington train station and had to plan the whole evening as the boy from Wales didn’t have much of a clue about the big city! It’s fair to say we liked each other immediately and after a gorgeous evening of dinner and drinks in Fitzrovia we had our first kiss in Covent Garden in the very early hours of the morning.

Neither of us wanted the date to end but with every bar closed and nearing 3am, we eventually had to call it quits and quickly book in the next date! We’ve now been together for 4 years and 4 months and became engaged just before our fourth year together.”

I knew that Andrew always wanted to propose when everyone would least expect it, so he surprised me with a little trip out to a country hotel on a random Monday morning. After popping the question with a fake ring (apparently I’m too high maintenance to pick a ring for!) we sat in the beautiful hotel gardens and drank champagne all day. It was great fun calling our friends to tell them we were engaged.  ‘What, but it’s a Monday?!’

It was so nice to really surprise everyone! The next day we came back into London and picked our rings together.
