It’s time for a little mid-week indulgence here on Love My Dress and I know you’re just going to love this feature as much as I do. You see, it combines so many glorious elements – delicate jewellery, precious metals and a wonderful craftswoman who shapes and perfects each and every piece herself. It’s such a pleasure to introduce you to divine handmade jewellery by Nikki Stark

“I have always wanted to make jewellery and remember playing with beads and anything sparkly I could get my hands on from a very young age,” says Nikki. “I took at Saturday course at Central St Martins just over 10 years ago and since then haven’t looked back. I was instantly hooked.”

This passion grew and grew and Nikki started selling her own designs, including wedding rings, three years ago. And oh my, how I love her style. The subtly of Nikki’s work really appeals – for purity and elegance, these designs would be hard to beat. As well as her signature wedding rings, Nikki’s on-trend skinny rings are all kinds of fantastic.

Nikki Stark Jewellery.“My work is understated and elegant. The detailing is contemporary but the scale can give the designs a vintage feel and they work very well to compliment older pieces.”

“I also love to stack and combine pieces so I tend to keep the individual items simple and create different looks through putting different things together. My current favourite combination is a soft, misty rose quartz ring stacked with a tiny sparkly diamond.

Oooh, heaven indeed. Nikki’s collections certainly do have a delightfully organic feel and perhaps that comes from her background as a designer and maker. Rather than having had years of intense formal training, Nikki has slowly developed her own style over time and it has a soft, almost quiet, grace that’s utterly charming.

“I create pieces that I want to wear myself or I design in response to requests so I’m constantly experimenting and adding to my range. I’m also obsessed with gemstones and just can’t stop myself buying more and more! This leads to a constant slow feed of new pieces into the range and the options for metal and gem combinations are endless.”

The fact that Nikki handcrafts every piece gives clients the option to tweak and amend designs, creating unique pieces, each of which will have its own personality.

“I create each of my pieces by hand with a simple selection of hand tools and this means that each will be subtly different,” explains Nikki. “A lot of my designs have developed out of experiments. I love the process of making and often, when trying to achieve one thing, something else emerges.”

It’s true what they say – the best things always happen naturally.

9ct gold rings from Nikki Stark start from £35 with 18ct versions are from £75 with bespoke carved rings starting at £300.

Nikki also offers a prototype service for wedding rings where she makes a silver version of a design for clients to try on. This costs £20-£30 and the charge is deducted from your final order and is particularly helpful if you’re trying to work out what ring will sit well with an unusual or vintage engagement ring.
