A Rue de Seine Gown for a Rustic Outdoor Wedding in Poland

Happy Saturday readers.  Are you up to anything nice this weekend? Perhaps you’re meeting friends, doing some wedding admin or dress shopping or even attending a wedding yourself?  Whatever you’re doing, make sure to take some time to yourself to catch up with all our beautiful features and to read our weekly From the Heart post on Sunday.  Certainly not to be missed is today’s gorgeous outdoor wedding, photographed in wonderful detail by Slawomir Gubala Photography.

Ola and Tom married at Osada Karbowko, Poland, on the 1st of August 2015 and the late afternoon sunlight through the trees, the exquisite dress, heartfelt vows and what looks like an incredible party all add up to create something rather wonderful (and another addition to my favourites list, which continues to grow ever longer!).  As well as their stunning photographs our couple also opted to have a film made of their day which you can watch here if you have a few extra minutes to spare.

“I’ve always been a boho kind of girl and wanted our wedding to reflect that. I never really thought I would get married so I didn’t plan it my whole life like some brides do so I actually surprised myself by how much I enjoyed the wedding preparation.  The traditional wedding was just not for me- I knew I wanted something different and a rustic theme was perfect- we wanted an outdoor summer wedding with a relaxed feel and lots of personal touches.  Our photographer described our wedding as a ‘wedding with a soul’ and that’s how I would like to remember it.”

Ola wore the absolutely sublime  ‘Dahlia’ by Rue de Seine, purchased from Luella’s Boudoir, London.  I just adore the slightly 1930’s feel, the delicacy of the beading and the cutaway back, which was designed especially for Ola, who wasn’t comfortable with the original open back cut.

On her feet our bride wore Rachel Simpson heels for the ceremony and Charlotte Mills flats for the evening party, to make sure she could dance the night away easily, and to accessorize, she chose a hair pin and wrist corsage both made by LumilinA via Etsy.

“I knew this was my dress from the moment Rue de Seine released the Young collection so I got in touch with them and was advised of a London stockist, Luella’s Bridal, who would have that dress in a few months time.  As I was waiting impatiently for the dress to arrive in the UK I did browse other dresses but there was nothing I liked as much as Dahlia. I knew this was the one- vibrant patterns and so unique – I’m still in love with it.”

Ola, her attendants and her father were driven to the ceremony in a cart pulled by two horses- such a lovely way for the bride to arrive.  She then walked down the aisle with her father to Gounod’s ‘Ave Maria’, played by string quartet Kwartet Smyczkowy.

“This piece of music is my Mum’s favourite.  She’s always told me how much she would want to hear that piece on my wedding day so we knew it was a must.  However, Mum was so super excited when she saw me walking in with Dad that apparently she didn’t even notice the music!”

The flowers were organised by the venue on Ola’s instructions.  She was keen for her bouquet to have a just-picked feel so chose a mix of roses and other garden flowers tied with burlap and jute string instead of a traditional ribbon- beautiful.

Ola’s witness (as she tells us that in Poland it isn’t common to have bridesmaids) wore a floaty dress from BHS in a peachy blush shade and a wrist corsage to match Ola’s own.

Tom looked very smart in a dark blue checked suit from Next, worn with a fabulous brown tweed bowtie from Mrs Bow Tie, a boutonniere from LumilinA via Etsy and a cute pair of cufflinks from Marks and Spencer.

The couple said their vows under a wooden hut over the lake while the sun beat down outside.  I just adore the photos of the ceremony- you can almost smell the grass and hear the singing of the birds and the lapping of the water.  Most of all though, I love the happy couple’s beaming smiles.

“Our rings were bespoke by Jade Jewellers and made partially from my parent’s wedding bands. My parents insisted on us taking their wedding rings and use them to make ours, so in the end the rings were half yellow gold, half white gold with a floral engraving of my design. The rings will always remind me of my parents and hopefully we can create a little tradition of passing the rings to our future children.”

Slawomir Gubala’s photographs on his website were breath taking and we were worried that our rustic style might not be stylish enough for him! However he captured the feel of the day so well and we cannot stop looking at the photos. Modern Wedding Videos also created our wedding film.  They were a lovely couple who were so friendly and completely understood our vision of the short movie we were after. They had so many good ideas and it was a pleasure working with them.”

The couple gave coffee and chocolate parcels to all their guests as favours, made especially for them by Apropos Roasters on Etsy.

The happy couple look like they had such an amazing time at their party- this is definitely a wedding I would have loved to have attended. They and their guests danced until 5am to music provided by Luminacja, who worked hard to accommodate all guests from all countries and kept the dance floor constantly full.

“We loved everything from the preparations to the party but the best moment was seeing my husband when I finally arrived.

We loved the ceremony, which was so beautiful and in amazing surroundings, and we felt so special and very lucky to be married there. The wedding reception party was so crazy and full of fun- everyone had an amazing time. We were so worried about the weather as the couple of days before the wedding it was pouring with rain and on the morning on the day of our wedding the sun finally came out and it was super warm and sunny- It almost felt like a blessing from the sky.”

“The cake was probably a little too big, but so tasty, and the venue added an extra bit of sparkle which we didn’t know about until we saw it.”

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“Try to stay calm, but most of all enjoy the whole process.  I really miss the wedding preparations. The wedding itself goes so fast so enjoy every single moment of it- trust me, you are going to love your wedding because it’s yours.”

  1. Ola’s dress is absolutely beautiful and I love the way her hair is swept off her face to show all of the detail. It looks a gorgeous day xx

  2. Oh, that’s a beautiful reportage from the Polish wedding. I love bride’s flats! and photos are stunning.. Great work and I am impressed by all handmade decorations!

When I was reading Words of Wedded Wisdom I lough so much, cause it was exactly what I was saying after my wedding in July 2015. Although, we are both Polish, we had very much of the international wedding inviting our best friends from the UK, Germany, Israel and Sweden. I must admit that my dreamed dress I found thanks to lovemydress.net and more and more inspirations. I am happy to share this experience with brides-to-be, because I feel Poland is a magical place to say “I do” (even though you doesn’t say it in any language actually).

    All the best xx
