So dear readers, I hope you’ve had a lovely start to your week. I must admit I was feeling a little blue after a wonderful glamping escape last week but spending some time mooching through everything I’d missed on Love My Dress whilst I was without Wi-Fi has certainly cheered me up (I think this wedding was the perfect medicine!). Richmond Pictures is a small professional photography team headed by Karina Lax, working with Tom Collier who’s both her associate photographer and husband. The couple live on the edge of the Peak District after moving from London but you’ll find them roving across the UK and Europe, capturing weddings in their signature, sensitive reportage style.
“I had been working as a fashion, portrait and editorial photographer for a few years and had actually largely shied away from the gravity of wedding photography,” explains Karina. “I was then asked by a photographer friend to photograph with him at a beautiful wedding in the Cotswolds. As a second shooter that day, I had the opportunity to take really creative pictures and soak up the emotion of the day without the pressure of being solely in charge.”
“It was then I realised the emotional value of wedding photography, how important and long lasting great wedding photography is to individuals. Something changed, and instead of feeling intimidated by this, I wanted to take on that responsibility and do people proud. I talked to Tom, who was shooting semi professionally at events and in his spare time, and we decided a two photographer team would work really well and would be an avenue I could really put my heart and soul into.”
And this approach has worked brilliantly. I’m personally a huge fan of photography duos because I love the fact that each brings their own perspective and their own style to the day so you get a glorious depth and completeness to your wedding photography. That’s certainly true of Richmond Pictures who combine fine art and reportage photography to perfection.

“My aesthetic is inspired by my love of dreamy fashion and beauty photography as well as vintage fashion and films,” says Karina. “But, ultimately, I’m inspired by the beauty, style, character and emotion of each couple and their loved ones at the centre of each wedding day.”
