Morning all! In case you missed it, last Friday, we launched a new weekly Friday morning series, in which we share proposal stories from our darling community of readers. We kicked off last week with the wonderfully captured-on-camera proposal of Jack and Jade. This week, it’s Abby and Matthew’s turn. By the way ladies, this new feature was inspired by the amazing community we have established over in our private Facebook group for brides to be and newlyweds – if you’re not yet a member, you can apply to be one via the page itself. We’d love you to join us.

Abby and Matthew
We met at secondary school, and although we were in the same year, we didn’t become good friends until year 10. We got together over a year later after the summer between the end of school and starting 6th form. Matt moved into my parents house in 2010 and we saved for four years before buying our own flat in North London last year. We’ve been together ten years this year!

How He Asked…
Matthew proposed on 14th May 2016. He had secretly contacted my favourite photographer, Emma Case, to plan for her to capture his proposal. We had met with her once before, three years ago, when we’d ‘modelled’ for a workshop she hosted for other photographers.
Matt had arranged for Emma to contact me out of the blue under the premise that she was doing a personal project and wanted to revisit some of the old couples she had shot, and gave me a date when she would be in London. I obviously jumped at the chance and ‘persuaded’ Matt to agree to it. Little did I know he was behind the whole thing!
We decided on Hampstead as our location for the shoot, had some lunch with Emma and hubby Pete, and then walked around the beautiful Pergola on the Heath.
Emma took some lovely pics and towards the end of the shoot, Matt got down on one knee and proposed!
It was so perfect, there was no one else around, only Emma and Pete who captured the whole thing, and then popped some bubbly for us afterwards!
I was overwhelmed with emotion, and so happy and relieved that he’d finally done it!
It was such a perfect day, and we have the most amazing photographs too!
I’d pretty much been planning the wedding in my head about five years before he proposed, so had a good idea of what I wanted. Two weeks after we were engaged we viewed and booked our venue, South Farm, and have since booked our Photographer (Emma, of course!), videographer and DJ.
The wedding isn’t until April 2018 so we’ve got plenty of time for everything else! The wedding will be quite rustic with vintage elements, and lots of gold!
The Ring
It’s a beautiful Victorian opal, with diamonds around the outside. It’s from around 1890. It’s so perfect, I couldn’t have picked anything better myself!
