For the vintage lovers out there – Magpie is the place to find true vintage and antique dresses and accessories and they will never stop promoting this ethical and stylish look. They were the first vintage wedding fair in the UK and are proud to write about it in the national press.

Each show has fabulous suppliers, a craft DIY workshop or two, a fashion “show and tell” parade, live music, cake and a cuppa, the opportunity to go VIP and above all, an ethos that celebrates you! So, no teeth whitening, no weight loss, nothing that makes you feel anything less than beautiful.

So, what should you expect at Magpie Wedding Shows? Well, here’s Kate to tell us more:

“As well as our creative exhibitors designing dresses, accessories, cakes, flowers and stationery or offering services such as photography and styling, we have two DIY craft workshops at every show which are free to join in but spaces are limited. We have flower head crowns, flower girl hoops and pom pom decorations, all of which you can take home with you afterwards. There is live music at every show from DJs and musicians, so you can dance or speak to them about your wedding needs.”

“We also have live hair and makeup displays, and a fashion parade featuring dresses, accessories and flowers created by our suppliers. Our models are ladies that enjoy dressing up so are different ages, shapes and sizes – which will help you decide on your look.”

“We have VIP tickets available via the website; VIP guests enjoy a glass of Prosecco on arrival and the brides gets a goody bag filled with treats (no flyers!) and you can enjoy tea and cake while you ponder over that dress you saw and tried on but cannot decide about!”

Now, if you’re thinking that Magpie is a new name in the wedding world, let me tell you that it’s actually the new name for The National Vintage Wedding Fair, the first vintage wedding fair that launched back in February 2010. They paved the way for vintage styling in the wedding industry but, as times and styles have moved on, Kate felt it was time to re-evaluate and change:

“Why Magpie? Magpies like sparkly shiny things and like to gather them up – like a bride gathering ideas, gathering inspiration and gathering pretty things. I also chose the Magpie for its black and white colouring – which leads us onto colour.”

“I wanted the brand to be slightly different from other wedding sites – less white, more dark grey, black and gold (with a bit of pink thrown in) I like the opulent feel of the darker colours, a slightly moody feel which is reflected in the shoot featured here. It is a glamorous look. Contemporary as well as classic at the same time. Timeless.”

“Love vintage? Then we promise that we will still have your “Something Old”. Love new? Then we are now openly embracing creativity, so that’s artisans, pieces made in the UK, that offer something design led for all you free thinking brides and grooms out there.”

Kate absolutely believes that couples need a place to see and feel products, to chat with suppliers and get ideas for real. She wants you to love your day out at Magpie but she also wants you to be entertained too so you should always expect things to happen at Magpie Wedding Shows!

I’m going to give you all the details of show dates and tickets in just a moment but, if you’re planning your trip to Magpie right now, here are Kate’s tips for making the most of you time at the show…

  1. Gather all your ideas together into one place to bring along, as showing exhibitors your ideas will really help them to understand your thoughts.
  2. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes as you may well be on your feet for a while. Wear clothes that are easy to take off so you can try on wedding dresses. Also, think about wearing good underwear so you will get a better idea of what you will look like on the day once in the dress. Bring heels if you will be wearing them with your dress as well as any key accessories that you have already chosen.
  3. You will meet a lot of suppliers throughout the day so ensure you collect all their business cards so you can refer to them later
  4. Be open and chat through your plans and ideas with the exhibitors – they will love to hear them. The more you divulge, the more they can add to your ideas.
  5. Many businesses offer competitions if you sign up to their mailing lists, sometimes to win a cake or even your wedding photography.
  6. Try on all the dresses that catch your eye plus any that others recommend to you. Keep an open mind when dress shopping as often the one that you don’t think you like, can turn out to be your dream wedding dress.
  7. Try samples of anything that is offered to you, such as cake and food. Spend some time relaxing too in the tea room or over a glass of fizz, taking the opportunity to review everything that you have seen. Listen closely to the bands and DJs that are playing as they too are there to promote their services to you, and have a chat with any that you like in between their performances

OK, now you’re almost set so, grab your diary and let’s get your organised! Magpie Wedding Show is taking place at Harrogate Cedar Court on 8th October, Manchester Victoria Baths on 15th October, Bath Assembly Rooms on 22nd October, The Assembly in Leamington Spa on 5th November, Chiswick Town Hall London on 12th November and the final show of the season takes place at Chester Town Hall on 19th November.

Lastly, whilst you can bag your ticket on the door, why wait? Buy tickets in advance here.

Have the most amazing time at the show!

Love,
