Our 2018 is proving to be quite the year for women. We’re veering from celebrating the centenary of women’s right to vote in the UK and the unveiling of the Millicent Fawcett statue in Parliament Square to feeling all the emotions after the Kavanaugh confirmation.

But, despite the strides forward that the feminist movement has made, some stereotypes remain, even in the wedding world. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Chloe Bond, founder of Chloe Bond Weddings, the UK’s first wedding planning company focusing solely on creating fabulous weddings for lesbians and queer women.

With over 15 years event and programme management experience, Chloe has absolutely the right skills and experience to provide an utterly brilliant service for her clients. She specialises in creative, urban weddings with bespoke, luxe design and she’s supported by like-minded suppliers who truly believe that all couples are equal and their love should be celebrated on their wedding day.

“Women who identify as LGBTQ+ need no longer feel obliged to fulfil stereotypes of heteronormative relationships and they don’t need to be pigeonholed into staid traditions,” says Chloe. “This is our time – a time where all women can find a service which is totally suited to their wants and needs. There are also a lot of women in same sex relationships who need a service which will wholly understand what they want on their wedding day.”

“There are a lot of women in same sex relationships who need a service which will wholly understand what they want on their wedding day.

Not all queer women want to adorn the big day with rainbows and invite the local drag queen to entertain the guests.

And speaking to Chloe, it seems that, despite the strides forward we have made with equal marriage rights for all couples, lesbian couples still face a whole range of issues when they’re planning their weddings.

“There are always so many stupid questions and so much expectation that they will conform to heterosexual stereotypes. ‘Who will wear a dress?’ and ‘who’s the man in the relationship?’ – these questions are still out there, in 2018 when sexuality and gender are no longer in the dark ages and women are still being subjected to these stupid, dated narratives.”

“Not all queer women want to adorn the big day with rainbows and invite the local drag queen to entertain the guests. Lesbians don’t have different requirements for florals than heterosexual couples – there’s no such thing as a lesbian bouquet!”

I wondered if Chloe feels that her business is therefore as much as educating people as it is about planning great weddings and she agrees that this certainly is going to play a major role in Chloe Bond Weddings – normalising same sex marriage still has a way to go.

So perhaps we should start with great, wonderful and downright brilliant same sex weddings and Chloe can definitely help here:

My main service is Full Plan and this is the perfect option for busy couples who want to wow their guests without having to spend a significant volume of their precious spare time planning and negotiating with suppliers. I’ll help my brides to navigate through finding the perfect location, creating a style that represents them both and bringing together trusted suppliers from my network to ensure that every little detail is meticulously organised.”

“My On The Day service essentially provides an Event Manager to ensure that on a couple’s wedding day, they can both focus on enjoying themselves. This is great for women with more time to plan but who then want to take their planning hats off on the day.”

“Couples will always retain control of all aspects of their wedding and I will support them to ensure that style goals and financial envelopes are met – whilst ensuring every element runs on time.”

Weddings, all weddings, are beautiful and in a world where women still aren’t truly equal, anyone who’s championing love gets my vote so well played Chloe. Let’s raise a glass to every couple who’ve found love. Every couple.
