Pronovias + Black Tie for Two Childhood Sweethearts and their Fun, Rainy Day Barn Wedding

IMG 6885

There’s such simple, classic elegance throughout today’s stylish black tie wedding, I know you’re going to love it. The venue is a wonderfully atmospheric barn, twinkling with fairy lights, and the day itself may have been a rainy one but despite that, there is such lightness here, from the styling to the soft and romantic photography.

Sarah, who works in fashion PR, and Matt, an Estate Agent celebrated their marriage on the 29 March 2018 at the beautiful Blake Hall, Ongar. The couple first met at secondary school, and after 10 years together, Matt proposed on a family ski holiday in Austria on Christmas Eve, no less!

“He arranged a horse and carriage ride through the town where we had visited throughout our relationship. It was amazing having both of our families around us. We married the March after.”

From Karen Forte Bridal Sarah chose an exquisitely cut silk gown by Pronovias, with a deep v-neckline and back, and a beautiful wide sash detail around the waist.

“I wanted my dress to be as simple yet classic as possible. I didn’t want any lace or embellishment. I loved the idea of a satin dress and knew it was my dress before trying it on.”

“After visiting a few venues Blake Hall felt the most relaxed and we both felt really comfortable there. The converted barns were a beautiful setting…We wanted everything to be really simple and clean-cut. White was the main colour throughout with hints of blush pink.”

Sarah also chose a simple cathedral length silk tulle veil, which she also purchased from Karen Forte Bridal. On her feet she wore ivory pumps with sparkling, leaf motif embellishment from No. 1 Jenny Packham at Debenhams. On the morning of the wedding, Matt gifted Sarah a delicate blue necklace from the Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard collection at Tiffany. From her parents Sarah received a pair of pretty drop earrings from Lara Heems.

“A pearl ring was my ‘something borrowed’. Matt’s mum let me borrow the ring on the wedding day. Matt’s grandparents gave it to Matt’s mum on his parents 30th wedding anniversary.”

The bridesmaids wore the most amazing glittering gold gowns by No. 1 Jenny Packham, from Debenhams, bringing effortless glamour to the day.

They also wore shoes from New Look and knot earrings from Pandora – a thank you gift from Sarah, and fresh gypsophila in their hair. The sweet flower girls and page boys wore outfits from Monsoon.

For her wedding day perfume, Sarah layered Jo Malone’s Red Roses with Peony and Blush Suede, after an in-store consultation with her Maid of Honour. Light Box Studio took care of Sarah’s radiant make-up and classic chignon, which she decorated with a pearl comb gifted by her brother and sister-in-law.

Matt wore classic black tie, from Reiss, a watch by Cartier and a pair of cufflinks from Aspinal of London gifted to him by Sarah for their wedding day.

“Matt also wore a bespoke lapel pin of a family tree that Matt’s brother had made out of his grandad’s old jewellery. Matt, his dad and Joe all wore the same.”

In keeping with this fresh simplicity, Essex based florists Luke and Lottie created dreamy bouquets of pale pink roses with gypsophila and ivy, with the stems neatly wrapped in white ribbon.

Sarah was accompanied down the petal strewn aisle by her dad, to Pachelbel’s Canon in D played by a live violinist (sadly no details provided). The couple exchanged their vows and rings beneath the beautiful soaring barn space of Blake Hall – Sarah’s ring was made by Gowan Jewellers to match her engagement ring and Matt chose his at Cartier.

The couple chose photographer Terri Pashley to capture their day, and it’s a delight to share her work here on Love My Dress.

“I had my heart set on Terri after seeing her photos of a friend’s wedding and she didn’t disappoint. Terri made everyone feel at ease on the day and managed to capture everyone’s emotions perfectly. We couldn’t be happier with our pictures.”

There was a quick dash inside after the heavens opened following the reception, and what a lovely room everyone sat down to enjoy the wedding meal in.

Sarah and Matt hand painted and stencilled pallets and signage, and beneath a canopy of fairy lights, tables were decorated with gold stamped bowls filled with gypsophila, garlands of trailing ivy and candles. Guest favours were M&Ms personalised with Sarah and Matt’s faces! The team at Blake Hall laid on the perfect feast, while Sarah and Matt provided a table of sweet treats for afterwards.

“Matt’s mum made our cake. She did a number of courses to learn how to ice and decorate the cake. She created sugar roses to match my bouquet.”

For Sarah and Matt there wasn’t one single favourite moment from the day, but the best aspect for them both was being surrounded by everyone they loved and who had been there for them throughout the course of their relationship.

Their first dance as a married couple was to It’s All About You by McFly – a fun song with special meaning for them both. Band Soul Fresh had everybody dancing into the night.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“Always stay true to what you both want and not what you think others will want. Don’t get too caught up in the planning, it should be fun!”
