Morning all, hoping this feature finds you well on this very chilly October morning. My thoughts are with friends in New York this morning, please please stay safe people and hoping the storm rides out very very soon.
Katy and Craig tied the knot on 8 September 2012 at St Thomas Aquinas
Catholic Church in Milton Keynes, followed by a reception at Cruck Barn
in Bradwell Abbey.
Their sweet, relaxed day of celebrations have a cute vintage twist, with the addition of not only Mrs Scoops fabulous vintage ice-cream van, Betty, but Katy's fab, 50's inspired frock from Vivien of Holloway – which saved her rather a lot of money on her dress purchase!
"I always walked past this shop and loved the dresses I saw on
display. I knew I didn’t want a typical lace up back diamante number
and the 1950's style of these dresses really suits and flatters my
bodyshape.
I went in and tried a few on and bought my dress then and
there!I knew i had found the one and it was a steal at £98!!"

"I love 50's vintage style and wanted something pretty to wear on my wedding day. I
liked the idea of a tea party and ideas just came together from there,
the venue was quite a pretty venue with lots of outside space so I
thought it would all come together nicely."
"I knew I wanted the Vivien of Holloway 1950's style of dress from the start for my bridesmaids, and they both looked amazing!"
"Michelle from Somthing Kinda Cute
is my oldest friend and one of my bridesmaids she provided my save the
dates, invitations and order of service aswell as my table plan and card
box, she helped me so much and I couldn't have done it without her."
"Our florist, Back to the Fuschia
is local to us, and I wasn’t sure what flowers I wanted, just what
colours they were. The flowers were a complete suprise on the day but
they were so pretty and I was very pleased."
"The cake was made by a very talented friend of my sister – I didn't see it beforehand, so it was a complete surprise on the day!"
"We hired a 1950s convertible beetle from Calicomoon – it was beautiful!"
"Our photographer Natalie J Watts was amazing, we are not really posers and she took natural and fun photos which we will treasure forever…"
"I wore the 'tea and cakes' shoes by Irregular Choice.
My dress wasn’t floor length, so I had to have amazing shoes! I totally
fell in love with these, and had to make sure I didn’t take them off on
the day as a few people wanted to steal them!
My mum bought me a freshwater pearl necklace, bracelet and earrings especially for the day…"
"Craig and I met six years ago through mutual friends. We became engaged in Russia in May 2011. We were on a Scandinavia and Russian cruise for my 30th birthday – I had no idea, even though I secretly hoped!! I just burst out crying when Craig proposed – I was so happy."
"We had a Catholic wedding ceremony, as Craig is Catholic, so our ceremony
was very structured in that sense – you can't really tailor your own vows – but the
readings that are in the service are really nice and all about love, which meant a lot and was very special.
I
was a little bit worried about the whole church thing if I'm honest, as I am not religious
myself, but I really enjoyed the service. And the vows although very
traditional and possibly a bit dated, still meant a huge amount."
"I made a lot of bunting with help from my Mum, and we also used
fairy lights and paper lanterns to decorate the venue. I was very nervous setting up the venue
the evening before, as I wasn't really sure what it would look like, but
I was so happy once we had finished – it looked so pretty!
I collected lots of teacups from charity shops and filled them
with sweets, and I also had mini bird-cages filled with sweets, and mini
crackers for our guests, from confetti.com…"
"We hired Mr Gigs to
provide our equipment and our friend rob dj ed for us we didnt want a
cheesy wedding disco and music is important to us so we gave lists of
songs to rob and he played whatever we wanted. It was so fun and I
danced all night."
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
"My favourite parts of the day were coming out of the church and
everyone congratulating us, and also the speeches – they were all so nice and heart warming.
It was wonderful that people were coming up to me and saying that the day was really
'us' as – we'd worked really hard on it for 18 months. This has made me realise that on reflection, I
think I'd not have worried so much before the wedding, about what everyone else would
think about it; the things we had that were a bit different were the
things that people commented on and loved the most."
This is such a sweet and lovely affair – Katie and Craig, I wish you both well in your new married lives together – huge congratulations on your lovely, pretty wedding day and big thanks too, to the gorgeous Natalie J Watts, who you can see much more from on Love My Dress here.
Much love,
Annabel
