Hello everyone! I’m back today with a feast of prettiness! A wedding full of little, quirky touches, lots of lace and the most delicately coloured flowers. Jamie and Liam married on 1st March this year at the very romantic Newton Hall in Northumberland. I adore the soft, sugary colours and the rustic feel to the day that has been captured so perfectly by Helen Russell’s photography.
The bride and her best girls are effortlessly chic while Liam looks mighty dapper in his blue three-piece suit and accompanying pocket watch. Prepare yourselves for one seriously stylish wedding party!
“We wanted to make sure we had a balance of smart and casual, but it was important to make sure our guests felt relaxed and comfortable. We both have a quirky style so the venue complemented this perfectly.”

“Liam and I met on New Year’s Eve in 2010. I went for a meal with my family and my cousin invited me to go out and meet his friends in Ponteland Village afterwards. Liam was a good friend of my cousin so we met there. He ended up having too much to drink and sang to me! We decided to meet for a coffee and dated for a while, we ended up official on Valentine’s Day.”
“Liam proposed in August 2012; he took me to Sabatini’s on the Quayside. We had a lovely meal and went for a walk on the Millennium Bridge. As we went on the bridge I noticed his friend holding a bottle of champagne and two glasses, he handed them to us and walked away. We sat and drank our champagne on the bridge and I told him how it was a lovely surprise… not realising he was going to propose next!”
“We really struggled to find a wedding venue that suited us, and the style of wedding we wanted. After visiting many local venues and having no luck we decided to travel a little further and attended an open evening at Newton Hall. I had never heard of it before until I found photos on our photographer’s website. We instantly fell in love with it and couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else.”
The bride worked with Newcastle florist, Secret Garden Flowers, “I love hydrangeas so I decided to go for a blue to match Liam’s suit. I wanted soft, sugar colours to run through the wedding so we decided to add some pink, cream and yellow roses. I had a little bit of gyp so I could tie it all in with my bridesmaids’ bouquets. I also wanted a floral crown to wear on my head so the florist used the same flowers from my bouquet.
“I had my eye on two dresses; one had a lace back and the other had pretty pearls hanging on the back. I went shopping with my mum and somehow she managed to pull out a dress that had both the lace and the hanging pearls detail at the back, which was made by Donna Salado. I tried it on and instantly knew it was the right one! I couldn’t believe my luck!”
“We chose Helen Russell as our photographer as we felt that she had the perfect style for our wedding. She is very professional, friendly and enthusiastic. We actually found our wedding venue through her beautiful photos and knew we wanted her too! She has been a pleasure to work with and we would highly recommend her.”
“I walked down the aisle to the instrumental version of ‘Little Things’. It was the song Liam sang to me the night we met!
We chose a good friend of ours, Dan, to do a wedding reading. He was the perfect person for the job as he is so enthusiastic! He decided to come up with “reasons why it is a good idea to get married” and he had a mixture of funny and serious reasons. He finished it off with a poem one of Liam’s best men had written for us, which was a lovely surprise!
Words of wedded wisdom
“Make sure you take time out to soak in every detail of the wedding. I knew it would be over fast, but the whole day seemed like it was just half an hour!
I loved every minute of our wedding, but we were surprised with a photo booth by my auntie and it went down a treat with our wedding guests! We were also given a lovely book of the photos to keep. The wedding reception was pretty crazy, it was so lovely to have all of my favourite people together in one room.”
What a super lovely day! Thanks so much for sharing it with us and to Helen Russell for the stunning photos. I have serious envy of Jamie’s beautifully wavy hair and even more jealous of the fact that she was able to style it all herself! I’m also staring very longingly at her floral crown and thinking about my own options for August.
Are any of you, like me, planning on using fresh flowers in your hair on your wedding day?
Much flowery love!
