The Story Of My Dress bridal boutique showroom is based in Kent, just an hours train ride south of London and close to the M2/M20. We can offer evening and Sunday appointments to try and accommodate our busy brides and their family and friends. The showroom is extremely relaxed and personable, many of my brides leave thanking me for such a wonderful and fun experience.
I was inspired to begin Story of my Dress after searching for my best friends wedding dress, I decided quite quickly my local area was not catering for the girl who wants to bring her own style into her big day and not break the bank in the process.
I wanted to create something a little different, something very unique, a one off dress that is breathtaking but still affordable. I found all of this in original vintage, the dresses have a story, whether it’s the era, designer, fabric, history or the actual Bride who once wore this on her special day and potentially even made it herself.
I like to offer the brides who come to me the stylish choice of dress, from either an original vintage piece or one of the many designer samples that I have carefully selected to sit alongside. From the fluid silhouette of our 1930’s dresses to the relaxed whimsical style of the our 1970’s we have dresses that will suit all types of wedding, be it vintage styled or modern chic! If the brides can’t find their dress I now also offer a bespoke design service. I have a number of styles off of vintage patterns with many fabrics and combinations to choose from so each dress is still unique and all completely British made by the most wonderful dress maker who has been a friend of mine for many years.
I just love the thought that each original vintage dress secretly has its own story, some we are able to tell and some we can only imagine. The 1930’s lace and silk dress shown in many of our images was saved from a closing down museum in New England, a life behind glass being adored, it is a beauty!
You can also find SOMD at many vintage and alternative wedding fairs across the country offering the chance to try on and purchase your dress there and then.
I never take for granted the pleasure of being involved in someones most memorable time, it is such a privilege and I have many wonderful memories of my own from the many brides who have worn a Story of my Dress gown. Kindest Wishes….Cara xx
