This evening, I'd like to introduce you to two lovely ladies, Suzi and Sally-Ann, who together represent the team behind a new brand in laser-cut paper prettiness, The Hummingbird Card Company, specialists in unique laser-cut wedding stationery and bespoke wedding invitations.

I chatted with Suzi recently about her lovely stationery…

"We started in March 2008 after realising there was a big gap in the market for wedding stationery that was subtle & sophisticated, with a vintage feel. We came across the technique of laser-cutting and we just loved it.  It
is a wonderful technique to work with and works so well with our vintage
inspired designs. It burns away the design leaving a delicate lace-like
structure. We love what we do and we are passionate about our products."

"I have been in the design world for over ten years, I am a Textile designer by trade and have worked designing prints and embroideries for the fashion industry. The design process translates easily to cards as they are like mini pieces of art.  Sally-Ann – Is a fashion designer and has worked with all the major High Street Stores, specialising in lingerie & nightwear. She has a great eye for trends and colours!"

What inspires you when designing?…"Everything! Could be anything form a vintage postcard to a piece of ornate metalwork…you then have to imagine how it will work when laser-cut. We have too many ideas and not enough time!!"

Do you design bespoke, as well as off-the-peg?…"Yes we do alot of bespoke designs…for clients who want totally unique wedding stationery, for people who have a specific theme and would like a design to compliment it or for couples who would like their own initials adding to one of our existing designs.  The card we use is sourced from the Lake district, it is a beautiful
quality.  We are looking into doing a totally recycled card/paper option
also."

Can you describe the Hummingbird Cards customer experience?…"From the outset we wanted to offer a very friendly and approachable service, your stationery is the first taste your guests will have of your wedding so it is important to make a good impression! We want to take away the stress from the bride and groom and make it an enjoyable experience,  when you see it written in black & white it makes it all feel very real!!and we hope that when their beautiful box of stationery arrives it makes them excited about their big day ahead!   Each item is lovingly hand finished in our studio, and we want our clients to be thrilled with their stationery when it arrives."

Do you see any trends in wedding stationery emerging for 2010?..."Yes there are lots of tones of greens coming through, and beautiful blush & cosmetic tones….also touches of pearl which we are
adding into the collection to give a fabulous vintage feel!"

Do you have a favourite product at all? Or is any product more popular?…"I think my favourite product is the butterfly…because it was so complex to design…it is incredibly delicate and very intricate for laser-cutting!  We currently do a beautiful boxed butterfly which is just stunning!!  I also love the Heart design….it is timeless and looks stunning with a single diamante."
