Just a little fun for a Friday morning. by way of a genius little gift idea that landed in my email inbox last week, when Ben, from The Original Wedding Tea Towel Company dropped me a note.
Wedding Tea Towels I tell you! I love it! :)
The Original Wedding Tea Towel Company was created by Husband and Wife team, Ben and Karen, following their 2009 wedding. Ben explains....
"So we decided to get married at the end of last year, and we wanted something special for our invitation - something different to create a buzz about the wedding, cheaper than standard paper options, good for the environment and something our guests could keep for ever, that’s how we came up with the idea for the Original Wedding Tea Towel.
When we’d finished the design and sent them out the response was so incredible that we knew we couldn’t keep the idea to ourselves and so the Original Wedding Tea Towel was born!"
Just think of all the possibilities - you could use them as an alternative 'Save the Date', or a 'thank you', or even as a Wedding Invitation in itself!Love My Dress Wedding Blog - Images Copyright (c) 2010, The Original Wedding Tea Towel

LOVE them. Idea of having something to keep rather than throw away really important. And designs are sweet.
Do wonder if, apart from the reuse ethos, they are actually more environmentally friendly than using recycled card or paper, though?
Cotton can be pretty high impact when it comes to generating CO2 (approx 5kg embedded in a cotton t-shirt, for instance), looks like more ink may be used and paper inserts are also sometimes included?
This is not to detract from the idea at all, which I think is original and memorable. But it would be good to see a full product life cycle approach when some people may be buying into these specifically because of what they consider to be environmental benefits. It may be that this has been done and I am just missing the details?

Hi Hannah,
We like to think that the printing of the paper invites is a bigger strain on the environment as the invites just get thrown away, if the printing's got to be done anyway then it's better it's done on something that can be kept and used.
Also we feel that cotton harvests are preferable to paper (tree) harvests and have less of an impact environmentally.
Our printers also use recycled inks on 90% of the colours and nearly all our designs are one colour, so less ink is probably being used than most 2 colour invites.
And finally, it's optional for people to include paper inserts, but most people don't, we find you can get all the info you need on one towel
Hope this helps.
Kx
