I've recently been enjoying watching "Mad men" – with it's fabulous wardrobe set, by award winning Costume Designer Janie Bryant.
The series starts in 1960, and the dresses used on-set fall into either the hour-glass slinky 'Joan Holloway' styles, or the pretty prom style dresses worn by 'Betty Draper'. Overall the costumes have much more in common with the late 50's crinoline dresses, than the dresses we think of as typically 60's – like the much later 'Twiggy' shift dresses.
I've been inspired watching the show to do a 'Mad Men' style photoshoot, using some of my own Heavenly Vintage Brides collection of original 1950's vintage wedding dresses; I always try to have plenty of these in my collection as they are so figure-enhancing.
I have tried to capture all the femininity of the period but update it a little by keeping the hair a little looser and the make-up a little softer…

I have a wide selection of dresses from all different eras at Heavenly Vintage Brides, from the 1920's through to the 1980's, but the 1950's remains a firm favourite for it's curvy shapes,
Heavenly Vintage Brides has a beautiful colleciton of full length gowns and lovely tea length dresses – perfect for showing off a great pair of heels!
If you choose to go for an origininal 50's wedding dress, do also consider getting hold of proper foundation garments – they are excellent for gving the right silhouette.
