Our latest real wedding comes to you from beautiful Scotland, courtesy of our fabulous sponsor, Candysnaps Photography. This fun-loving couple are Laura and Dave, and they tied the knot on 24 April this year at Castle Lachlan, with a ceremony followed by food and a 'dance-o-rama' at Inver Cottage 🙂 Both are located in Strathlachlan, Argyll, Scotland.
"We chose them as they had the perfect setting combined with the kind of relaxed informal wedding vibe we wanted. Joe and Jasmine at Inver Cottage were brilliant hosts and Castle Lachlan was ideal for our humanist ceremony and lovely folk too."
I LOVE this wedding for it's fun and fabulous style (see the decor at the reception, those CAKES! …. and those cheeky moustaches!) but also for Laura's stunning 1940's style column dress. There is something about full sleeved wedding dress which when pulled off with such style, looks so completely elegant and demure. Pretty Scottish Bride Laura commissioned Yvonne Mullock to create her fabulous frock…
"The dress was an exact copy of a 1940s original we found in Saratoga Trunk in Glasgow. We took the original clawstuds and diamantes off the old dress and re-made it, well Yvonne did. I loved the style and elegance of it and it just felt very 'me' I suppose. Plus when I tried on the original it was almost a perfect fit…except for being 3 inches too short!"

Laura's shoes were a lovely pair of suede orange heels from Dune.
Milliner William Chambers created Laura's beautiful headpiece.
"William Chambers is an amazing milliner based in Glasgow. He hand-made my headpiece to order and was great at giving me advice and understood what I was after straight away."
Dave's suit was a Ben Sherman…
When it came to the Bridesmaids, Laura had one instruction; "wear what you want".
"They decided on spring colours and then it turned out that they all worked amazingly together."
"A pair of local ladies called Nicola and Fi did our flowers from plants/flowers that were in season in their gardens."
Knitted Wedding Cake!
"My Mum, Grandma and Grandad were the official team behind the knitted wedding cake. I drafted in the help of various friends to help me knit all the cakes for the tables! Aside from the knitted cakes, I knitted tubes on my knitting machine to hide bits of scaffolding that were visible on the marquee. We also bought some tissue paper balls that we hung from the ceiling and sourced lots of lovely vintage tablecloths for the tables during lunch."
"Dave put together a wedding band and invited different friends to get up and sing a song….it was one of my (many) highlights!"
Top Tip!
"My top tip to myself turned out to be singing the song 'sexy, all i wanna be is sexy' when feeling like i was going to lose it it during the ceremony. I think the best thing that happened was the amount of tears (good ones!) and laughter that occurred during our ceremony. It was really quite special for us, I think if you make the day your own it can only be amazing. Our inspiration was just to make the day our own, something that really reflected us and not feel like we had to adhere to rules etc of weddings."
I absolutely LOVE featuring a wedding where the love shines through as much as this! Everyone smiling, laughing and having fun. And that must be the best wedding cake I have seen yet! 🙂
Huge thanks and congratulations to Laura and her Husband Dave, and as usual, the wedding blog love goes out to Caroline Weiss of Candysnaps Photography for being so fantastic and kindly letting us reproduce her imagery on Love My Dress 🙂
Now where are those knitting needles of mine?…..
