Spring/Summer Wedding Makeup Tutorial – Creating a Beautiful, Flawless Look for 2011…

Now, I'm not one to usually post these makeup style posts {infact, I have never posted one before on Love My Dress!}, but you know what? I am ALSO not the kind of person who has EVER been able to master the craft of applying one's own makeup with slick perfection {like, at all!}, and so I hugely appreciate the DIY style guides, you know? Heck, I have only recently learned how to do a bit of a smoky eye all by my very self – thanks to my amazing friend Kaz Fernando, and the occasional YouTube vid! 😉

Not so long ago, UK Weding Makeup Artist Jessica Nurse got in touch to see if she could share her expertise with my readers.  We talked about how a pretty Spring/Summer Bride look might go down well, and so here it is.

I love the flawless looks below, one, a fresh Springtime face, all pretty pale pinks and gorgeous lashes – the second look being more for the evening, with a brighter pink lip but stunning eyes.

Here, Jessica Nurse tells you how you can achieve both of these looks, and what to avoid when in charge of your own makeup {which I know many of you will be come wedding day itself!}.

"I wanted to create really fresh and fabulous looking skin on the face of my model Hannah.  This season is all about clean skin, dewy cheeks and beautiful lips as seen on the latest bridal catwalks for Spring/Summer 2011.

Models were floating down the catwalks with glowing skin, rose cheeks, gel liner and a few false lashes for natural yet pretty lashes…"

The Before Shot…

Before1

Step 1:  Make sure your skin is clean and make-up free.  I then used Boots own eye cream along with Body shop vitamin B moisturising cream for the rest of the face.  You can blot this cream on with your fingers, using a small amount at a time so not to make the skin too oily.  Apply a small amount of MAC strobe cream on the cheek bones, and if you are worried about shiny skin you can use a mattifying cream on the t-zone also.  Fully prepped skin creates great base and longer lasting make-up!!

Step 2:  I used MAC face&Body foundation on the skin as this gives a medium coverage and leaves skin looking natural yet lovely.  I always find skin looks better with a lighter coverage foundation and then use a full coverage concealer to cover any redness or blemishes.  The skin really is the key to this perfect look

Step2-

Step3:  For Hannah’s cheeks I used a mixture of cream blushes to find the perfect tint for her skin…

Step3-

Step 4:  I used MAC cream highlighter in Shell colour and applied to the top of the cheek bone using my fingers for a slight dewy look.  I then used Pearl colour to the eye lids to brighten.

Step 5:  For Hannah’s eye I added a small amount of light brown/mauve shadow to the outer corner to add slight depth.  You could do this with any shade or leave as just a pearl cream.

Step 6:  Using a Charles fox black cake based liner I added a little water to the brush and mixed until I had the perfect consistency.  I then applied the liner on finely with a slight flick at the end of the outer eye.  If you struggle to create the perfect line I always find it is good to balance the fine brush onto the lashes.  I always say to my clients if you practice creating a fine line every day on the eye for a week you will see yourself improve.  Practice makes perfect with that steady hand!  If you really can’t master the fine line, you could try a pencil liner smudged/blended in with your finger.

Step6

Step 7:  Always make sure brows are neat and tidy.  I used a small amount of brown shadow on an angled brush to neaten Hannah’s.

Step 8:  Lips I used a rose colour and ‘ample pink’ lip gloss from MAC.

If you are a brave fashionista you could also try a bold lip! The catwalks of Fendi, Loewe and Dior showed nude faces with bold magenta and bright lips for this summers trends!! On Hannah I used ‘impassioned’ lip colour from MAC to create a sexy yet sophisticated bright lip!
