How To Decorate A Shop-Bought Cake ~ A DIY Video Tutorial…

Morning everyone! I thought I'd approach this week with something a little different so have decided to move the lovely real wedding feature of today to early afternoon {it's well worth the wait!}.  Instead, I'm helping you get your creative on this Monday morning with a fab little  video tutorial for all you DIY Brides {and others who fancy a challenge} that looks at how to decorate your own shop-bought wedding cake.

This film was the brainchild of Vintage Inspired Wedding Planner, Tiffany Grant-Riley and luxury cake designer Janet Mohapi-Banks, who collaborated with film-makers Mintyslippers {who you can see more from on Love My Dress here}.

Apart from the cake itself, all that you need for this tutorial is some sugar flower paste and icing sugar.  Further details are included towards the end of the 7 minute production.  Tiff tells us more…

"This piece came about after I got talking to the lovely Janet Mohapi-Banks about refining my existing cake skills-being an avid cake maker and decorator, I wanted to be able to learn to pipe properly and learn some sugar crafting skills on a one to one basis.

Janet offered to give me a tutorial and then before we knew it, we were filming it and extending Janet's expertise out to brides who also wanted to learn. If you're a bride who wants to make their own cake or would like to decorate a shop bought cake for your wedding then this is perfect for you…."

"It's easy to follow (thanks to the incredibly talented Julie and Danny at Minty slipper) and the design is of the moment in one of the hottest colours for weddings in 2012. The roses can be made months in advance of your day, which we recommend you do so you have time to practice and take it at your own pace and, providing you're careful, they can be wrapped carefully and kept after your wedding as a keepsake.

You'd be surprised at just how long this took the two of us to complete-we did this in almost 5 hours which gives you a rough idea of the skill that goes into cake decorating."
