Wedding Cakes by Janet Mohapi Banks ~ The 2012 Collection…

Something delicious for you this afternoon, from a creative team that not only involves fabulous photographer maker and beautiful new Surrey wedding venue, but a cake maker extraordinaire.

Some of you regulars may recall this recent cake decorating video tutorial courtesy of Janet Mohapi-Banks and Tiffany Grant-RileyJanet Mohapi-Banks is an award winning luxury bespoke cake designer working in and around London, Surrey and the UK. Featured in all the country’s leading wedding magazines and on national television and radio, Janet Mohapi-Banks is a recommended supplier to some of the country’s most prestigious venues including The Connaught, The Dorchester and The Ritz London.

Today, Janet shares with us some of her cake designs from her new 2012 collection. I love, love love these designs, so classy and let me tell you, so very very delicious!

"The inspiration behind my cakes comes from all sorts of places.  The star cake of my 2012 collection, which I’ve called His Majesty due to his grandeur, was inspired by the architectural adornments of many of the buildings in London.

Other cakes in the collection were inspired by the seasons of the year and past fashion and architectural periods such as Art Nouveau and Art Deco.."

"I love both of these periods and I have tried to encapsulate what I consider to be the essence of the eras whilst bringing them into the 21st Century with fresh contemporary designs that have their hearts firmly in the past..."

"Last years trend of tall cakes is going to continue well into 2012 and beyond with designs becoming more extravagant and lavish.  White on white wedding cakes will always be popular and with cakes such as Winter these can also be very glamorous.   Colour will also be fashionable on 2012 wedding cakes although this is likely to be as an accent rather than the main colour of the cake…"

"The structure of the cakes will be more elaborate with different shaped tiers, double height tiers and half height tiers being mixed into the popular round and square cake structures.

Although my Autumn cake could definitely be described as free and rustic, on the whole wedding cakes for 2012 are moving away from the rustic charms of recent years and are heading towards more refined, elegant and precise designs for 2012…"

Is your mouth watering yet?

This photoshoot was styled by Stacey-Marie Chalk of Cherry Topped Design, who shares her own thoughts of Janet Mohapi-Banks' cake designs and working on this shoot…

"Janet’s cakes are wonderful as stand alone works of art, but when it comes to presenting her cake collections, Janet likes to have them styled to create an ‘ambience’. In order to style the cakes, Janet shows me her actual cakes or a sketch of a cake in progress, and tells me a bit about the colours and the idea behind the design. I then set about searching for images of colours, ideas and accessories to build an inspiration board for each cake. The inspiration boards provide a look and feel for each of Janet’s cakes which I share with all suppliers involved and use to gather accessories for the day of the shoot. The floral designer, Leanne Roberts-Hewitt of Wild About Flowers and stationer Ivy Ellen, can then interpret the look we are trying to achieve so they provide perfectly complementary creations…"

"By having each of Janet’s cakes styled in their own way, we hope to not only show how the designs can suit your wedding, but also that your cake can be a focal point of your wedding day and can very much complement or even lead your wedding design. There are many ways to give your wedding cake the centre stage it deserves and to truly make the most of it on your wedding day. Show it off to your guests by creating drama and an ambience around it, rather than letting it sit all lost and lonely on a plain white round cake table!"

Huge thanks to the creative team involved in this shoot for allowing me to share these beautiful photographs.

Which is your favourite? Mine has to be the Autumn cake {it being my favourite time of year and all}, but then, can I have a second choice too? Pretty please Janet?

Much love all,

Annabel xXx
