A Non-Traditional Midnight Blue Wedding Dress for an Outdoor Ceremony & Rustic Reception…

It's a special kind of Tuesday on Love My Dress. I have so many beautiful blog features to share, we're going for an all-out bumper kind of day today with four treats. We started out with Kelly Spence this morning and her exquisite vintage inspired accessories and Love My Dress reader discount, now it's time for a real wedding feature.

I love this feature, and hope it reassures any bride worried that they have to go down the traditional dress route on their wedding day;  Kari and Rob tied the knot on 25 June last year at Rob’s parents garden, in the Scottish Countryside, Strathtay, Perthshire and Kari looked a goddess in the most gorgeous, backless, blue silk and lace floor length knock-out number by fashion designer Louise Simmonds

"The dress was custom made by Louise Simmonds. She came up with designs based on our discussions. I chose the one I loved, but throughout the dress making process it evolved as we both adapted the dress design to suit my body.

I loved Louise’s portfolio of vintage dresses and we got on so well. I loved that we went material shoppingtogether with my sister to find the perfect silk…"

"We wanted something relaxed and informal, I wanted it to be as un-traditional as possible.

Most importantly to us we wanted it to be personal, from all the work we put into making things, writing our own vows, having the ceremony and garden party in Rob's parent's Garden to getting friends and family involved…"

"My dad, Bjorn gave me away.  I had bagpipes pipe me up the road but as soon as I got to the wood where the ceremony took place we had the sound of the countryside and a babbling brook so we didn’t need music!"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Get your friends and family involved. We had so much fun making and creating. These memories are just as important to me as the day itself.

Do a first dance and get lessons. We had a great time learning something new together and have so many laughs even now dancing to our song…"

Oh how wonderful! I just adore this day so much, my favourite colour celerbrated in the most glamorous way, an outdoor, relaxed vibe and lots of pretty DIY and handmade touches thrown in.

Kari and Rob – wishing you a wonderful soon-to-be first wedding anniversary, and huge thanks too to Nicola of Daffodil Waves for sharing these images.

"Our photographer Nicola Ferguson of Daffodil Waves was wonderful. I cannot recommend Nicola highly enough. She told the story of our day through beautiful photographs."

So what do we think? Are any of my readers planning on wearing something non-traditional like Kari?

Much love,

Annabel
