Garden Fete, Daisies and a Woodland Romance…

Oh how I've been chomping on the bit to feature this wedding, ever since previewing it on Facebook.  I'd also like to take this opportunity to welcome brand new Love My Dress sponsor We Not Me Collective, who basically do amazing wedding photography. What better way to celebrate their inaugural day as sponsor than by featuring a wedding they photographed!?

Nick and Faye got married on  26 May this year with a Humanist ceremony held at Templars Barn, Berkshire. I adore the quite possibly unintention 70's vibe of this wedding…

"Our theme was ‘Woodland Romance’ for the woodland ceremony and ‘Daisy/Garden Fete Romance’ for the barn and its surroundings.  We wanted it to be as natural as possible.  We used a variety of wood/twig hearts which hung from the barn using gingham ribbon.  We had collected unusual bark and moss which was scattered around the venue.

Large daisy flowers were propped in areas and we had hay bales with ditsy floral material covering.  We had also had hearts in various sizes made, that were then sprayed in vibrant colours which we hung around the gazebo.  Colourful bunting kept up the fun fete theme.   We also had a skittle alley along with a coconut shy to keep the guests entertained which both went down very well…"

"Nick wore a navy Aquascutum suit.  We had bow ties made out of the same daisy ditsy print material that the bridesmaids sashes were made out of. His Best man also wore a navy suit and pale blue waistcoat.   The ushers were asked to wear either navy or grey suits depending on what they had. They also wore the bow ties that we had made, along with each being given a pair of grey braces to wear, their accessories were their presents…"

"I am fortunate enough to have a very creative mother who is a dab hand at floristry.  She and her girl friends took charge of all the flowers.  They had been growing various meadow flowers in the garden since the engagement in preparation for the wedding.

She knew that we wanted a natural look and understood that the flower arrangements were to look organic and free rather than structured…"

Faye's bridesmaids wore a daisy detailed chiffon blouse from Topshop with peach maxi skirts made by a friend.  They also sported pretty fresh meadow flowers in their hair…

"We loved the rustic charm of our wedding venue, Templars Barn.  It’s still a working farm and is able to cater for a few weddings a year.  We wanted the wedding to reflect us and loved the idea of doing most of it ourselves.

You basically hire the barn in its purity and do whatever you want to give it life for your special day.  We had strong ideas on what we wanted to do with the venue and it was great that we were allowed to be creative and muck in…"

"My wedding dress wasn’t bridal.  I bought it from a little vintage seconds shop in Marlborough called Bertie Golightly.  I was lucky to find it here as they don’t often have many bride style dresses.

I loved its simplicity and the way it fell.  It had movement and I felt free when wearing it.  It was the first dress I tried on in the shop and I felt great in it – meant to be!!!"

"All our cakes were made by family members.  We are not massive fans of traditional fruit cake and wanted to eat our favs at our wedding.  We wanted to give our guests choice so opted to go for a fete theme with a variety of cakes – carrot cake, pineapple upside down cake, green tea cup cakes, Victoria sponge, fudge (grooms favourite), lemon cake and brownies.

Our cakes were the desert for our wedding breakfast, this worked really well as normally the cutting of the cake can be missed and lost in the celebrations.  It was good fun cutting each one of the cakes together with cheers to follow!"

"We wanted a relaxed wedding and we wanted to provide our guests with something a bit different.  I love daisies so that was a good starting point.  My mum also held a bouquet of daisies when she married dad, so it was nice to continue the theme.  We love the outdoors and nature and wanted this to be a big part of our wedding…"

"Tom of We Not Me Collective did our photography and we can’t thank him enough.  He made us feel very relaxed and he captured amazing shots.  It was refreshing to have a photographer who suggested creative concepts and didn’t follow a structured approach to his picture taking.

Tom was very creative and this is evident in his approach to photography.  He showed a genuine interest in our wedding and wanted as much detail as possible to ensure that his pictures reflected the mood and special moments throughout our day…"

"Our catering company was Peter VaughanThis is a special restaurant for us and we have eaten here on many special occasions.  It is based in Devizes where we met and it meant a lot for Peter to do our food; he is all about sourcing local food that is in season and has a way of combining amazing flavours.  He added personal touches to the food at our wedding and met all our guests – he has a real presence and passion for his food and his charisma shines…"

"We used a company called ‘Wedding Smashers’ – their DJ’s were great, very friendly and played exactly what we wanted.

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Enjoy every moment even the build up and preparation.  Make sure you have a wedding that reflects you as a couple and if you know exactly what you want, make it happen.  Plan well in advance and make sure that you have a really good caterer and photographer.  The day goes so quickly and it’s so lovely receiving your photos to remind you of all the precious moments.  Also, don’t be scared of taking control and creating your own DIY wedding, it’s fun!"
