A Polka Dot Candy Anthony Wedding Dress & Pink Patent Shoes…

Hello lovelies!  I'm so pleased to be sharing this lovely 50's inspired wedding with you this arvo!

Helena & Ted tied the knot on Sunday 3rd June at The Devonshire Dome in Buxton and Helena wore a gogeous polka dot dress by Candy Anthony. Isn't Helena beautiful? I love how she looks so relaxed and happy, what a gorgeous smile…

"Our wedding was inspired by the 1950’s but really by accident!  I fell in love with the dress and it went from there.

I’m a short curvy girl and quite frankly a traditional wedding
dress didn’t seem to suit me!  I can’t wear long dresses and skirts and I
wanted something that I would feel comfortable in.  Splashing out on
something made to measure was definitely worth it – the prices at
Candy Anthony are not un-achievable for us average earnings girlies and the
service is superb – from the minute you walk into the shop you are made
to feel so special!

"I thought I’d never find the right colour shoes but my beautiful L K Bennets were brilliant – great colour match and very comfy…"

"The dress is probably the first item
of clothing I’ve owned that fitted perfectly – looked great on my shape
best of all really twirls out when you spin round – and who wouldn’t
want to relive that childhood game on their wedding day!  Also it’s
something different and I do like to be a bit different.  It’s
beautiful, comfy, well-made – just perfect!"

"I travelled in a Camper Van which belonged to my Aunty Anael who
passed away very suddenly last year.  She was like a second mum to me
and had helped me through some very difficult times in my life.  I
really wish she could have been there but being driven through Buxton by
my Uncle Mark listening to a techno version of ‘Going to the Chapel’
whilst my mum balanced precariously on my Dad’s knee is definitely
something that would make her smile.

It was the perfect way to arrive.
It had even been decked out with bunting made by my Aunty Karen!"

"We went with fruit and I have never seen people enjoy fruit cake
quite so much!  We are trying to keep the top tier of the cake for the
christening of our first baby (which is what my mum did with her cake)
but I’m honestly not sure it will make it!"

"We chose i-tailor
for Ted's suit, so we could get everything made to measure at a good price.  The
quality was great and all arrived well within the given time scale.

We wanted something quite relaxed – not a ‘wedding suit’ as
such."

"I chose HBA Photography
when I met Hannah at a wedding fayre in Derby.  Ben was about – playing
his sax and Hannah was lovely to talk to – she told me all about her
wedding which sounded just gorgeous.  I had a look at the photos and
loved their relaxed style.

"I couldn’t have imagined how great HBA Photography could be – everyone who was
there on the day commented on how amazing they were – especially with
our collection of small flower girls.  So helpful and accommodating and
the proof really is in the pudding  – our pictures are fabulous.  I know
I’ll never stop looking at them and they’ll make me smile every time I
do…"

"The bridesmaids dresses were my top bargain – at around the
£40.00 mark these Hull Bunny dresses were good quality and fitted my
scheme perfectly.  I added a net underskirt to each one for that 50’s
flare!

"All my bridesmaids chose their own shoes with the caveat that they had to be red!  They looked great!"

"Ted’s proposal was very romantic – he took me to the lakes for the
day on my birthday.  We ended up in Grasmere in the pouring rain but in
the Wordsworth daffodil garden, breathing in the wonderful gingerbread
smell which infuses the whole town he went down on one knee in the mud!
It was amazing!"

"Choosing to ignore my Uncle Mark’s suggestion of ‘Better
off without a wife’ by Tom Waits, and after long debates I chose to walk
down the aisle to ‘By the Light of the Silvery Moon’ sung by Fats
Waller – it’s beautiful
.

We wrote our own vows, and I promised to “love, cherish and bake” for Ted!"

"We chose our venue because the venue was so beautiful and different
– having working in hotels for years I wanted something different.
Also Buxton is a lovely place – it was right in the middle of the
various factions of family and friends we were inviting.  It’s also a
great place to stay with hotels, B&Bs, even camping to suit
everyone’s various budgets.  Lots to do for anyone who wanted to make a
weekend of it (especially with the long bank holiday)…"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Stand up for what you want with
everyone – if you want a bouncy castle – have one (I did!), if you want
to wear trainers and a top hat – do it!  Be firm with your venue and
make sure they give you what they promised (same with all your
suppliers).  It’s your day – keep it special for you.  It’s not about
accommodating everyone else.   I guarantee if you’ve enjoyed your day so
has everyone else.

A bouncy castle is possibly the best wedding
baby sitter one could ask for (no matter how old the child!).  All the
parents attending loved it as they always knew exactly where to find
their children."
