An Intimate London Wedding Inspired by Hollywood Glamour…

Good morning guys and gals. How has your weekend been? Now, I mean to do a bigger  announcement than this, but you need to head on over to the About page after viewing this post to meet our new contributing team member, Jess! Jess will be contributing once or twice a month from here on with her great discussion posts, the next one of which will be up tomorrow morning.  But for today, well, I do love to open up the week with a lovely wedding, and I've got some crackers for you this week!

These particular photographs are of Louise and Kurt, who tied the knot on 22nd June this year with a beautiful,
intimate wedding that involved just twenty of their closet friends and
family.

I adore Louise's style; from her beautiful beaded frock to her
glamorous red lipstick and that gorgeous ostrich feather cape.  Louise's
dress was actually a complete steal fro House of Fraser – a gorgeous beaded and sequined chevron dress by Linea that cost just £175 in the sales…

"I
always loved the old black & white movies, I grew up watching
Hollywood Glamour. Fred & Ginger, Jane Mansfield, Mai West.  This
being my 2nd marriage I wanted something different with a flicker of
maturity but still reflecting my playful and sexy side."

"I’m not tall
& skinny with long legs and sculptured shoulders, I’m a size 14, 5ft
6 with a big bust and hips all the things Kurt loves so I also wanted a
style that would highlight my best assets for my husband.
After looking &
trying on many dresses I saw the dress on the website the website a few
times and didn’t really like the length, but it turned out that was was
because it was on a 6ft model! When I tried it on I loved it straight
away!

My ostrich feather shrug was from Coast…"

"We chose to marry in the Brydon Room at Chelsea Register Office because being on the Kings Road it seemed very “London” and not far from the Themes and the beautiful Albert Bridge.

We then found a beautiful French Brasserie
with a perfect private dining room overlooking the river Themes that
suited the ambiance and feel of our day, we could relax eat, chat, drink
and love!  We were lucky I think because we were so relaxed, we were
willing to compromise so things fell into place no hassle."

Louise & Kurt opted for florists Scarlet & Violet.  By the way, the founder of Scarlet & Violet has written the most beautiful book on Vintage Flowers – it is one of my favourite books, the styling inside is simply divine…

"Our florist was Scarlet & Violet and our
flowers were simple, uncomplicated and NOT overpriced! I couldn’t
believe the cost of some florists, I spoke to the team at this shop and
they were so relaxed and patience because I really couldn’t decide what I
wanted. In the end I think we chose the best options!"

"I brought my  Irregular Choice shoes a few
years previous for Kurt’s sister wedding in Australia, I wore them
twice but loved them and so did Kurt, so we agreed that I would have
them as my wedding shoes, plus I couldn’t really find
any others I liked as much!"

"My Father gave me
away to ‘On the street where you live’, from My Fair Lady. This is
because Kurt would sing this in his head when walking down the street to
meet me at my flat when we first started dating…he’s a BIG softy!"

 "We
both met through our love of Rugby Union Kurt being Australian we
immediately had a rivalry, I (Louise) was the 1st XV Men’s Manager of
the Kilburn Cosmos RFC & Kurt played No8. We flirted for half a
season across a muddy tackle bag then Kurt decided to ask me out on a
date. I said it couldn’t involve Rugby or sitting in a pub watching
sport all night, so he took me to the Magic show in Winter Wonderland
Hyde Park. We drank beer and ate Bratwurst for the rest of the night
laughing about how bad it was! Our second date was Tate Modern I then
started to realise there was a little more to him than rugby & beer…

After two years of dating we went on a holiday to Canada and while hiking to
Lake Agnes above Lake Louise in the Rockies, Kurt got down on one knee
and proposed, it was the most amazing and breath taking moment EVER!"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"I
think keep relaxed and being open to alternatives and compromise is
very important. Also if things don’t go the right way on the day…c’est
la vie! It didn’t for us but you can’t tell.

Love My Dress
was a huge influence and inspiration and helped me find a photographer
& hair stylist. It also gave me the confidence to go with something
that isn’t the norm when it comes to weddings.  At times, I was scared that I would feel like I was in fancy
dress, but the creativity and inspiration from Love MY Dress soon made me
feel like – well, what the hell!"

I love the intimacy of this wedding and would like to congratulate Louise & Kurt on their beautiful, intimate nuptials – and Louise, for saving a small fortune on your wedding dress! 😉

Thank also to lovely Sally Thurrell

Is anyone else planning a very intimate wedding with just a few special guests?  And have any of you managed to find a beautiful bargain of a wedding dress on the high street? We'd love to hear from you if so! Please share your experiences.

Much love all,

Annabel
