For me, writing this feature has been a real treat. You see, almost a year ago now, I penned this piece for Katya Katya Shehurina and now, I’m indulging in another little bit of bridal heaven. There’s a definite feeling as I write this that I’m catching up with a friend – so much so that I feel I should have a large coffee and a slice of cake to hand.
I know Annabel feels the same as she first discovered designer Katya Shehurina almost three years ago at White Gallery so today we’re thrilled to renew our acquaintance with the romantic and whimsical wedding gowns from Katya Katya Shehurina…
Katya herself began her journey to the wedding world through designing stunning ready to wear evening gowns. Her clients and fans loved them so much that they begged her to create a bridal collection and when Katya brought these dresses to White Gallery, they “stole the show” as Annabel so rightly said and Katya Katya Shehurina has been a ‘must watch’ label ever since.
“I like the push the boundaries of traditional bridal gown by producing forward thinking silhouettes that are super flattering,” says Katya. “I take inspiration from vintage gowns and use beautiful French laces, soft-to-touch silks and Swarovski crystals as the basis for my gowns.”
I saw Katya’s heavenly wedding dresses for myself at Brides The Show last autumn and I absolutely fell in love with them. The delicate combinations of fabrics, the delightful lines and details and the mix of vintage and contemporary styling cues utterly stole my heart. These gowns are enchantingly feminine with a strength that belies their softness.
We all know that lace is certainly the fabric du jour when it comes to bridal design right now – it’s luxurious, exquisite and incomparably elegant – and each and every Katya Katya Shehurina gown is a masterclass in its use. The gorgeous layered skirts have an unstructured look that’s absolutely divine and effortlessly attractive.
There are also plenty of design elements to swoon over in all the wedding gowns from Katya Katya Shehurina. Let’s start with the sleeves – those charming cap sleeves, the demure elbow and three-quarter length sleeves plus show-stopping full sleeves, all using that French lace to maximum effects. I’m also interested in necklines and the mix of high necks and V-necks makes me smile and that’s before we even begin to look at the open backed gowns, pockets, bodices and finishing touches. Please don’t ask me to choose my favourite design.
