"Michael and I have been best friends for 25 years, and since we were 4 years old infact.
We got together two years ago after he lost his Mum and we both realised how much
we loved each other.
We call her our 'sprinkle of magic'…"
A couple of days ago, I posted an extract from a wonderful email I'd received from a reader thanking me for the contribution that Love My Dress had played in the role of her wedding planning. And it went like this…
"Firstly, I’d just like to say thank you. I know you must get countless emails from ever-grateful alternative brides/fans, but I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to let you know what a difference you have made to our wedding.
The inspiration I found on Love My Dress completely responded to those aching frustrations we had to do something that was not only a break from the norm, but represented our personalities. And my, did you deliver that dream for us…"

"Michael and I have been best friends since we were four {our classmates from primary school came to join us in our school church and did readings for us – goosebumps!}, and have always been a little quirky in our ways. I guess when we finally got ‘together’ two years ago, everyone around us knew that our relationship would be characterized by the fun element that completely made our friendship… and now our marriage…"
"Our wedding was comprised of all the things that inspire us – 40s/50s Hollywood glamour, a nod to lindy and swing, Alfred Hitchcock, The Wizard of Oz, Northern Soul and even a bit of the Jackson 5!
Annabel, thank you so much for the hard work you put into your blog – it has, quite simply, helped to make all of our dreams come true…"
Isn't that just the loveliest email? And as for the photographs? I don't think I need make any introduction, they speak for themselves…
I adore those red Dorothy/Wizard of Oz shoes by Shoes of Prey above there who provide an online facility where you can create a shoe design all of your own choice and personal preferences.
Lyndsey and Michael tied the knot on 28th January at Christ the King RC Church, Burnley followed by Stanley House, Mellor…
"We chose the reception venue Stanley House for its Hollywood glamour feel, seamlessly merging the modern with vintage touches and the food is divine! We hired the venue exclusively so that we could really play with the space to make it our own – which reflected in a nice fluidity from one exciting vintage entertainer/display pieces to the next! The central chandelier was changed to a gorgeous red light to fit with our scheme…"
"We had a black tie dress code for all guests, and it worked beautifully with our Hollywood glamour theme…"
A little girl in gloves! Soooo cute! 😉
"Our order of Service, table plan, table settings all designed by our clever graphic designer friends…"
"Cake decorations were from Etsy. Michael made the cupcakes himself (whoever heard of a groom making the cakes?!) and we had cupcake stands made from old vinyl records. Our tables were named after old movies…"
"Kathleen’s Florist, Burnley (Local florist). I wanted a vintage rustic effect that tied in the lace theme – and carried this through to the bridesmaids too. It was very important to me that I was able to include my late great grandmothers from Ireland into the wedding day – the florist designed my bouquet around two heirloom brooches which I was kindly lent for the occasion by my grandmother…."
"Vintage 78 DJs provided entertainment during the drinks reception – and I made a video montage of all our favourite old Hollywood movie trailers, which were projected onto a screen.."
"Our evening surprise to guests was the amazing Tootsie Rollers who came up all the way from London to wow our guests. Michael and I are big fans and we were dancing along to two unforgettable Tootsilicious sets. Our guests were literally open mouthed in surprise when they walked in the room!"
Lyndsey wore two dresses on her wedding day, the first was Dabra by Enzoani.
Dress number two was a vintage find from The Vintage Emporium in York, that Lyndsey visited whilst at The Vintage Wedding Fair in Harrogate.
"I chose the Dabra dress because we had the pearl and lace theme running through the day – we even had lace chair ties and pearls across the top table! I was going for a Rita Hayworth/Liz Taylor feel and this really delivered.
I had already bought a dress from San Francisco (a 1950s heavy satin William Cahill) which I still have, and adore, but I tried the Dabra on and it had a sparkle like I’d never seen on a dress before. After a little persuasion, Michael let me change dress and go for the one that made me feel like a vintage princess! It was like the dress was made just for me, fitting perfectly in all the right places and even to me, who loves dressing in vintage frocks all the time, it sparkled with vintage glamour like I’d never seen on a dress before…."
Hehe! Cute bridesmaids dresses from Oh My Honey…
"We planned the day ourselves entirely, however we wanted some specialist vintage support with regards to venue dressing, so we hired the hugely talented Katie from Perfect Days Vintage who really helped us add the Hollywood glamour touch with lots of candelabras, pearls, vintage trinkets and tea sets!"
"Howard Wing sang all our old crooner favourites and a bit of Michael Buble during the wedding breakfast. He got everyone involved and had us standing on chairs and swaying, and me leading a love train all the way around the room with our guests. Absolutely incredible.
He got so many of our guests singing their favourite songs – every single person has said that he really made a spectacular wedding, incredible…"
Aww, this is SUCH a wonderful wedding – Lindsey, thank you SO much for taking the time to write to me 😉 You look utterly fanTABulous on your wedding day, I'm thrilled to pieces that my blog helped make your day so very special 🙂
Huge thanks to Mark Tattersall for allowing these images to be reproduced on Love My Dress for your enjoyment…
"Not only have we followed and been inspired by Mark's work for the past few years, but he is local to us in Lancashire. It was, quite simply, a real honour to have Mark capture our day. He ticked all the right boxes for us from the outset – extremely talented, brimming with ideas, eager to work with us on something ‘different’ and ultimately he delivered the non-conventional wedding memories we were really looking for."
A fine testimonial if ever there was one. You can see more gorgeous wedding photography from Mark Tattersall on Love My Dress here.
