We’re delighted to share with you Lulu The Label, a small but mighty London business built by the wonderful Lucy, in 2019, on an ethos of sustainability and elegance.
What began as a way to use leftover fabrics from her fashion design degree has now become a collection of handmade bridal scrunchies and accessories created from wedding dress off-cuts. We think you’re going to love her designs, her commitment to reducing waste and her sweet, super cute wedding accessories for pets.
Brides can send Lucy the offcuts from their gown to be made into scrunchies, bows, drawstring bags and pocket squares. For bridesmaids, a silk scrunchie paired with a mini bottle of champagne or a handwritten note works beautifully on the morning of the wedding. These pieces are made to be worn again, long after the day itself, and there are also options for your partner or father, with pocket squares and bow ties created from the same fabric.
We’re especially pleased to see Lucy’s delightful range of dog bows and bandanas. These slot easily onto a collar, adding just enough detail to include your dog in the celebrations without fuss. It’s a charming way to have your four legged friend look smart in photos or at the ceremony. Lucy, please introduce yourself to our readers
I am Lucy, owner of Lulu The Label since 2019 and based in London. The business was founded after wanting to find a use for the remnant fabrics leftover from my Fashion Design degree and final year collection.
After researching ‘scrap-busting projects’, I trialled hair scrunchies, shared them across social media and the rest is history! Since then, we havee established some wonderful stockists, magazine features and collaborated with other incredible sustainable businesses.
After working for several remarkable British designers in luxury couture, it felt natural for me to move into something that enabled me to continue creating in an ethical and eco-friendly way,
Tell us about your new bridal accessory service where you create using wedding dress off-cuts
I am passionate about fabric waste reduction and ensuring that nothing is sent to landfill and in light of this, we are now offering a unique service where brides can send us their wedding dress off-cut material to be made into any special accessories.
Our clients love the idea that they can wear a piece of their wedding dress everyday! Giving their off-cuts a purpose, rather than being discarded of or remaining at the bottom of their dress garment bag.
It is our mission to help save the planet through textiles and fashion, and this idea offers a wonderful solution, for sustainable everyday wear or creating keepsake pieces.
After receiving numerous requests from brides who were keen to find a use for them, it inspired the idea of offering this as a permanent, reliable service.
We have worked with a range of off-cuts, from different bridalwear dress designers, which are sent to us personally by our brides.
What kinds of accessories can you create? Can you share examples of those you have created so far?
We can create all kinds of accessories, from hair scrunchies and bows, to drawstring bags and pet bandanas. Our brides have also requested bespoke pieces for their groom or father, such as pocket squares and bow ties, to ensure they feel included.
The most popular and versatile accessory of our collection is the classic hair scrunchie, which brides opt to wear themselves on the day, for dancing in the evening or to take away on their honeymoon. They also make a thoughtful gift for the bridal party, especially when gifted in the morning of the special day.
We also make beach skirts for honeymoon styling and travel drawstring bags, as well as headbands or hair pins which brides love to wear at their wedding breakfast the next day. There is no limit and we love the challenge of seeing what we can create from each individual off-cut.
Wedding Accessories For Pets
For brides interested in your services, what should they do?
Brides, as well as friends and family members can contact us through emailing [email protected]. It is best to include the accessory ideas that they have in mind or would like to order, alongside any reference images and links. They should also advise how much off-cut material they have available and if possible, attach a photo. We require the bride’s wedding date too. It is possible for us to work on a quick turnaround if needed, although the more time, the better.
We do also welcome 1-1 video consultations should brides wish to discuss any bespoke design ideas; we are always open to hearing what they have in mind and working with them to bring their suggestions to life.
Once the accessories have been confirmed after an in-depth conversation, we request that the off-cut material is posted to our address which is provided after payment, so that production can begin.
‘Royal Mail tracked’ is great for sending to us and if the order is urgent, we ask that they be posted as ‘Next Day Delivery.’ This cost is covered by the sender and we are not liable for any delays or loss.
Our recommendation is that all off-cut fabric is kept after the wedding dress alterations as this allows for more accessories to be made and experimented with. If we feel that there is not enough material to create the order, then we would suggest re-working and merging with fabric that we have available in our studio. An example of this is our two-tone scrunchies or if it’s a double layered accessory, we can suggest an alternative base or top layer to use.
