Freya and Max were married on 19th July 2025, with a traditional church ceremony at St James Church in Leckhampstead, Berkshire, followed by a marquee reception at Freya’s family home in nearby Peasemore.

Their day was beautifully documented by wonderfully talented wedding photographer Benjamin Stuart and filled with the abundant, romantic floral designs of Love My Dress recommended florist Feverfew, whose flowers completely transformed both church and marquee with the most divine soft pinks and pastel summer shades.

There was never any question of choosing a venue elsewhere – Freya and Max knew from the outset that they wanted to celebrate at home, surrounded by family, familiar surroundings and plenty of dogs. Their vision was a proper traditional English wedding with garden party spirit, a marquee on the lawn, long tables filled with flowers and a day that reflected the people around them rather than following trends.

The English weather played its part too, delivering dramatic downpours that sent guests running between barns, buildings and shelter, but that only added to the character of the day. From the flower-filled church and spectacular marquee arrangements created by the exceptionally talented Nat at Feverfew, to the family vehicles, musical performances and personal touches woven throughout the celebration, every detail contributed to a wedding that was joyful, welcoming and unmistakably their own.

We really wanted a proper traditional English wedding with garden party vibes. We were going for a four weddings and a funeral feeling and we definitely got that when the heavens opened and our guests were running to the closest barn, marquee or building to get cover!

The Family Home

We got married at St James church in Leckhampstead, Berkshire and had our reception at my family home in Peasemore, Newbury, UK.

There was not even a discussion about venue, we both just knew it had to be at my family home with all the dogs around and a proper homey wedding feel.

The Dress

Madi Lane

I bought my ceremony dress, ‘Greer’, from the ‘Serene by Madi Lane‘ collection, from I Do Frocks bridal boutique in Thatcham. Sophie and the team were so helpful and friendly. I never felt rushed or stressed and the showroom has so much more space to breathe and think than other showrooms.

Sophie and her team supported me with numerous visits, whether it be to try on shoes with the sample of my dress, and again when choosing a veil.

I loved my Laura Green dress and my Anthropologie satin bow slingback heels with satin bows were a perfect find by stylist Sophie at I Do Frocks.

I wore a long veil and had it over my face while I walked down the aisle. It had some horsehair structure so it had a really lovely wave to the drape when it fell over my face. This was my something borrowed from I Do Frocks after my mother-in-law’s veil didn’t quite match the very white ivory of my dress.

I was so glad I had my pearl headband to put in my hair after I knew I would want to take my veil out after a while. It was by Richard Designs.

We also got our bridesmaids and flower girl dresses from Richard Designs at I Do Frocks so they supported a lot of visits from me and my bridal party.

My perfume was Ambition by Ampersand

Earrings were from The Hambledon in Winchester and my engagement ring was a family heirloom from Max’s family given to him by his grandmother. We went super classic with our wedding rings from H Samuel – good old gold bands.

Max travelled to the church in my dad’s vintage Ferrari and my dad drove me in our Land Rover Series 1 which has been in the family for decades. Prestige Cars rented us a white Austin Princess limousine for the bridesmaids. My dad walked me down the aisle and we had we exchanged traditional church vows during the ceremony.

We loved our photographer Benjamin Stuart’s weddings on Instagram and were super excited when we discovered he had availability on our big day!

I was so glad we went with Ben, he was so professional and just knew what was and wasn’t going to work. He had to navigate Family photos and couple photos between downpours to make sure we got all our shots. I would highly recommend Ben.

After the ceremony, we took a bottle of champagne and drove a mile from the wedding venue and had 15 minutes and a glass of fizz. I’d definitely recommend taking that time with your new spouse, especially if you find big gatherings quite exhausting – it’s nice to have 5 minutes to have your “OH MY GOD, WE JUST GOT MARRIED” moment alone together.

How They Met

We met in 2018 as second year students at a house party in Leeds. With neither of us looking for a relationship we have somehow ended up married 8 years later. It was a classic case of right place, right time.

We got engaged on our houseboat in Twickenham in September 2024. Max got down on one knee in the kitchen behind me whilst I was chopping veg for dinner – safe to say he was as surprised as I was as I turned round knife in hand!

The Reception

Our reception was hosted inside a marquee provided by Redcrest Events.

My mother-in-law organised all the wedding favours. She made her own sloe gin and sewed Liberty printed lavender bags with our names and wedding day stitched on, as well as organising favours for the children to keep them busy.

All stationery was from Papier.

I loved using real trees in our decor. We had a large silver birch in the marquee that we then planted in my parents’ garden as a little bit of the wedding that will always stay there.

Our flowers were from Nat at Feverfew for our flowers. I look at photos of Nat’s flowers on my phone all the time – she has inspired me to become a flower person.

The flowers at the wedding were absolutely amazing, the church was adorned with flowers everywhere, my bouquet was perfect and the tablescape was gorgeous. I cannot recommend Nat enough for her curated chaos of florals.

Our caterers were McCrimmon and Reid – great tasty food and beautifully presented. Our cake was by Becky at Novae Bakery. We worked with Becky to make a cake that had a modern feel with a traditional twist. We went for a spotted fondant fitting the colour scheme with pinks and peachy tones with a royal icing piped finish.

After the wedding breakfast, our musical friends and family were our entertainment, all being kicked off by a vocal solo on the piano from Max to me. We had Max’s childhood band reform, violin and recorder groups, and a bit of karaoke as the evening went on. We had a DJ on hand all day to help with dinner music and the party. Carlos absolutely nailed the vibe and we had people on the dance floor all the way until midnight.

I bought my evening outfir, the Paige cape and dress, from Laura Green in London. About 4 weeks before the wedding I went with my mum to collect her dress from Laura Green and she showed us her sample sale room. I instantly fell in love with the Paige Cape and Dress and it was an absolute perfect fit.

I was so glad I impulse bought it because the torrential rain on the wedding day meant my ceremony dress had got so heavy with water and so muddy – I still had a long dress to change into and lots more movement for dancing!

We had “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” as our first dance song. We had choreographed about 30 seconds before we waved for our family to come and join us. And I still can’t believe we did it, but the music then cut to The Bad Touch by The Bloodhound Gang, which if you know it is probably one of the least appropriate wedding songs – but that’s the song we always end up dancing to after a few drinks at midnight. And as a bonus we already know the moves to that one!

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Stick together all day. You will be pulled apart all the time so try your hardest to stay glued together. It’s your day as a couple, spend it together.

My maid of honour was constantly checking who I was talking to – if I was spending too long talking to anybody, she sent Max over to take me away. It’s so great to catch up with friends and family you’ve not seen for a while but you only have so much time for each person. Get yourself a maid of honour who’s got their eye on you.

Also, I would have trusted my instinct on dresses rather than listened to everybody’s opinions. I ended up so confused and stressed by the whole process. There really is a reason they tell you to only bring a couple of people.
