Lindsay Fleming Couture – Specialists in Vintage Bridal Wear & All That Jazz!

The Roaring Twenties, the decade of the bath tub gin, the model T Ford, The Jazz Singer, and a celebration of life and youth after the dark war years. It was the age of the flapper, and the Charleston, the Bunny Hug and the Kickaboo, late night parties, and clubbing to the music of Jelly Roll Morton. Skirts shortened, breasts were flattened, and waistlines were slung on the hip. This was the decade of Art Deco and Cubism, and couture houses of the time livened up their designs by incorporating the art scene into their clothing.

Lindsay Fleming Couture was established in 1998 by Grace Lindsay and Julie Fleming; you can read more about them here and how these two Scottish based designers have worked hard to establish a brand that supplies unique made-to-measure wedding dresses, at realistic prices, to brides all around the globe.

Influenced by the creative genius's of Coco Channel, Paul Poiret, and the surrealist inspired Elsa Schiaparelli, these gowns not only will transport you back to the days of Joan Crawford, Gloria Swanson and Clara Bow, but will bring out the hidden Greta Garbo in every girl.

Currently the collection consists of four dresses and a coat, details of which we are rather a titchy bit excited to bring to you right here on this Flapper-lovin' Blog…

'Clara'.…………..

'Clara' was inspired by the most iconic twenties style, the 'flapper'. Perfect for any girl wanting to ''charleston' or 'bunny hop', Clara is made from sandwashed silk crepe, with a deep band of pale gold embroidery embellished with AB crystals around a dropped waist. The AB crystals are also around the neckline, shoulder straps and down back. However the most stunning part of the design is the 'handkerchief' skirt made from 20 metres of pure silk tulle, which gives the dress an uneven hemline reminiscent of the 'roaring twenties', which floats elegantly as you walk.

As with all Lindsay Fleming designs, Clara can be changed to suit your own taste. For example many clients have preferred to have their dress made with silver or coloured embroidery.

'Gloria'……………

Made from beautiful sand-washed silk crepe, Gloria has a two inch band of iridescent embroidery embellished with sequins and beads, around a low slung hipline, neckline and shoulder straps. The skirt has a long train and is overlayed with two layers of chiffon giving an undulating edge, adorned at the front point with a drop crystal.

As with all Lindsay Fleming designs, Gloria can be changed to suit your own taste. For example you may wish to have a different colour of embroidery or shorter train. To discuss this and other options available, contact a designer.

'Greta'……………

Greta is a sandwash silk crepe straight, loose fitting dress, typical of the 1920's, with a bodice containing a deep 'V' lace inset trimmed with pearls and beads. The low slung waist has a narrow lace band with pearls. The skirt is overlaid with masses of chiffon panels creating a 'handkerchief' hemline giving glimpses of the shorter straight hem of the tubular dress below. A dress that will bring out the Garbo in every bride.

As with all Lindsay Fleming designs, Greta can be changed to suit your own taste.

'Lilian'…………..

In the late twenties, every fashionable lady had to have at least one calf length winter coat in her wardrobe, and it was from this period came the inspiration for Lilian, a double breasted coat with a hem longer at the back than the front. It is made from sumptuous silk backed velvet, lined with pure silk satin. The cuffs and hem are lavishly embroidered in striking silver and adorned with AB crystals, and the collar is made from soft and delicate ostrich feathers. Perfect for a chilly winter wedding. As with all Lindsay Fleming designs, Lilian can be changed to suit your own taste. For example why not select a different coloured fabric or embroidery.

'Mary'…………..

Mary is a gown of beautiful simplicity, loose fitting, and the perfect winter wedding partmer for our lavish 'twenties' coat, 'Lilian', or on it's own for a hot summer afternoon wedding and evening reception.  Made from stunning silk backed velvet, and trimmed around the bateau neckline and down the back with inch wide silk satin, the dress has a long tiered train, with each tier also trimmed in silk satin.

As with all Lindsay Fleming designs, Mary can be changed to suit your own taste.

Clients who cannot visit the Lindsay Fleming Sudio in Scotland, can use the company's successful mail order service. Taking into account that most Brides prefer to try on a dress before commiting to a purchase however, the company are currently reviewing their services and have identified premises in Central London which would allow consultations in The City on a regular basis, with Brides to Be.  Plans are under-way for this service to become available by March 2010, with the possibility of rolling the service out to other areas across the UK in the future.

We absolutely ADORE the 'All That Jazz' collection here at Love My Dress; vintage, vogue and very very glamorous.  We shall be keeping a keen eye out for future designs and developments over at Lindsay Fleming and posting details here at Love My Dress
