A 1920’s Inspired Wedding in Stockholm…

It has to be said, I'm having a bit of a Queens & Bowl kind of day today {get your 20% off here!}.  Our wonderful Sponsors and online wedding boutique supplying everything from vintage style wedding shoes to shrugs and everything in between, are the reason for this latest wedding feature.

Swedish Bride Jenny married her Beau Erik on 21 August 2010 at The City Hall of Stockholm, Sweden.   Jenny is a big fan of the Love My Dress Wedding Blog, and was inspired by these wedding pages in planning her own wedding – she also found out about Queens & Bowl via Love My Dress, and as a result, purchased the most fabulous pair of Rachel Simpson 1920's style wedding shoes, that beautifully complimented her short wedding gown, by Danish Designer Ilse Jacobsens.   These are just a few beautiful photographs form Jenny and Erik's wedding…

"I had great help from Kate Bowl at Queens & Bowl.  I picked a pair of the Hettie shoes by Rachel Simpson because of the pretty details, the heel and 1920s style.

When it came to my dress, I wanted a knee-length dress with sleeves and it turned out to be impossible to find in a bridal shop in Stockholm. Then I found this dress in a local store nearby our house in Nacka and I loved the fitting, puff sleeves and the lace details. And the fact that it’s a bit unusual…"

Love at First Sight…

"With Erik it was love at first sight five years ago. We met for the second time four years ago and fell in love. Two years ago we got engaged and our son Ralf was born. I think that our wedding was an amazing experience and a new start for us. We feel so lucky and grateful for everything we got. Our son, our love, our family and friends. We couldn’t believe how strong it felt seeing all our friends and family waiting for us at the reception. All the joy finally getting married and now we should celebrate and dance with our loved ones! Later that night, ten of our best friends followed us to the suite at the hotel, to make a toast on the roof.

Our wedding inspiration came from an old bookmark with a wedding couple; pink and brown. There was also a touch of the 1920s and a lot of nostalgia for past times. Torn buildings and faded lace – I wouldn’t change a single thing. It was a perfect day!"

Old-fashioned Florals…

Jenny's Florist was the amazing Madelin Downey of Downeys Blomster och Jazz {you simply MUST check out that website for vintage wedding bouquet and floral inspiration!!}

"I wanted pink old-fashioned flowers in a messy and charming bouquet. Madelin picked astrantia, hydrangea, nerine, carnations, astilbe, roses and freesia. Then she added creme coloured roses and buttonbush…"

Hettie Hairpins…

If there is one thing I LOVE about Jenny's style – it's her hair. I adore how Madelin Downey – Jenny's multi-talented Florist and Hair and Makeup Artist styled Jenny's locks into 1920's marcel waves…

"It was a bliss finding Madelin! She made my dreams come true and understood exactly what I wanted. She made a huge impression on me!  Kate Bowl from Queens and Bowl also recommended the Hettie Hairpins from Rachel Simpson and they did match the shoes and dress beautifully…"

A Vintage Style Venue…

"The City Hall in Stockholm is a symbol for the capital of Sweden, and since we met in Stockholm it felt like the right place. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in Sweden, built in 1923, and also known for the Nobel Banquet. The City Hall fitted in our vintage inspired wedding theme. The ceremony was just for our closest family. Later that day we had a reception and party for the whole family and all of our friends in a former parish house, Järlahuset, in Nacka just outside Stockholm, also built in 1923. We wanted the party venue to be close to our home in Nacka and close to the lovely waterfront hotel Elite Hotel Marina Tower were our guests from other cities and countries and Erik and I stayed."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

♥  Trust your gut feeling.
♥  It’s your wedding and you can do what you want to. No one of our friends or family members had ever been to a standing mingle wedding dinner before, but we had one and it was a success! People danced all night instead of sitting down for hours.
♥   If you plan a vintage inspired wedding you can find a lot of décor, vases and candelabras in thrift and charity shops and maybe borrow things from your grandmother.
♥  Use the best photographer you can afford. It makes a difference and gives you beautiful memories for life.
♥  If you want a lot of dancing, choose a band or a DJ who actually makes people dance!
