Bridal Inspiration Boards #11 ~ Ice Cream…

Morning You!  Straight on over to the brilliant and talented Michelle from Pocketful of Dreams this morning with a screeeeeech {of the ice-cream van tyres, as it pulls up conveniently outside of my house}…

Happy Friday everyone, it's that time of the week again when I get to go all crazy with wild inspiration to (hopefully!) help with your wedding planning ideas.

Last week my very first planned and styled wedding took place, and what a day it was. I was completely overjoyed by how fantastic the day turned out to be, it was everything I imagined and more and I have been so spoilt with amazing feedback and wonderful comments from both the couple and the many guests there on the day. I am beyond thrilled.

To celebrate, and give myself a little treat, I took some time off to enjoy the sun with a picnic in the park followed by the most delicious ice-cream I think I have ever tasted, summer has most definitely arrived. And as I am always thinking about styling ideas – even on my days off – this gorgeous ice-cream became my muse for this weeks wedding inspiration.

1 Title

In all seriousness it can be as simple as that, inspiration really is everywhere and your wedding day doesn't have to be about an elaborate theme or style, it really can be as basic as liking a certain colour palette, or in my case sugary sweet things! Luckily for me, and for you, delicate, ice-cream coloured shades are bang on trend this summer so you will find lots of pastel goodies on the high street to help you complete the look.

This style is soft, delicate and very feminine. Mixing delicate pastel shades of your favourite ice-cream flavours from mint, to strawberry, to blackberry and vanilla…

2 Style Vibe

Think pretty flowers, mismatched vintage teapots, lots of chiffon and tulle and these oh-so-adorable pastel coloured round-balloons. Yummy. And if you can get your hands on a pink vintage vespa or a mint green cadillac then you will have one stylish ride to your wedding.

3 Look Book

I have chosen the blush organza Farrah by Vera Wang gown to feature here as it's just the most gorgeous, ice-cream-like creation of a dress I have ever clapped my eyes on. All that lovely frothy detail and sheer tulle makes me go almost as week at the knees as the ice-cream did. And I know these Nicholas Kirkwood ruffle chiffon shoes are total fantasy territory as they are rather expensive, but how could I not feature them? Those shoes, that dress….I could wear them both forever.

The delicate and pretty bouquet almost mimics the flow of the dress, clever flowers – clever florist more like. This is why it is so important to work with suppliers who understand the overall look of your wedding, show them pictures of your dress and your styling ideas and let them come to you with creative ideas.

Bridesmaids – now then, I'm sure these ladies would look good in a binbag but hello? How super-duper pretty and cool would your bridesmaids look in these delicate pastel shades, all in a different style of dress mixing up short and long styles but with a base of pastel colouring and soft chiffon fabrics. I want to be bridesmaid at this wedding.

And the Men – well with a wedding this cute your man and his merry men just have to don a pastel-coloured suit. It's the law.

4 Decor & Details

The details for this one are really very easy to create, just remember that delicate and pretty pastels are your starting point then go to town with mismatched decor items like vintage china, homemade bunting, pretty tablecloths, pale coloured glass vases and yet more sugary delights with cupcakes and macaroons in your chosen colours.

I love these vintage hand stamped  'My Ice Cream – Your Ice Cream' spoons, (available on Etsy) you could forgo the cutting of the cake and feed each other ice cream instead, or serve ice-cream sundaes for dessert.

Vintage ice-cream scoops or pretty pastel coloured ice-cream bowls would made lovely and practical favours for your guests.

Sweetie and dessert stations are very popular at wedding nowadays and guests love them, but how about creating your very own ice-cream parlour instead where guests can make their own with an array of toppings? I have featured a DIY tutorial on my blog today to show you how to create your very own ice-cream parlour dessert buffet.

Or for the ultimate in style and retro kitsch why not hire Betty for the day? Betty is the delicious little vintage ice-cream van featured above, owned by Vintage Scoops. Both Betty and Mrs Scoops will tootle along (I'm told she doesn't go very fast) to your venue and serve your guests as much locally sourced ice-cream as they can take. All served lovingly by Mrs Scoops in her best floral frock from the 50's style van festooned with bunting!

I want to be a guest at this wedding – can you see a theme here?
