“It sounds silly, but I also genuinely feel privileged to be able to create photos that tell a story of the most enchanting day two people can spend together.
The most rewarding part is when I give someone their pictures and watch them going through them – not just reliving every moment, but seeing for the first time what was going on behind their backs! Recently, a couple said that their pictures looked like ‘stills from a movie’. I was pleased as punch to know that so much of what they didn’t catch on the day came to life in their photos…”
“In terms of how I work – I think having your picture taken shouldn’t be hard work. I also think people look their best when they’re feeling relaxed and natural. So even for the more formal pictures I’m always friendly and unobtrusive. No one likes a bossy photographer…”
“Most of the couples I work for are in their twenties and thirties, and choose me because of my reportage style of photography. I don’t get in the way, or tell people how to pose, instead I capture the smiles, laughter, details and fun that is being had.
I try to spend a good couple of hours with each couple before the big day, so that they can get to know me and will feel relaxed around me. This also gives me a chance to really understand what’s important to them, and to find out about any key moments during the day that are going to happen, that I may not have known about otherwise. This could be an impromptu song, or even a costume change!”
