A Charlotte Casadejus Lace Wedding Dress for a Local London Wedding…

Good morning! Now listen, before I kick off with this feature, I really MUST tell you about the 10.30am feature this morning – it's going to be rather fabulous, the first of a few treats that a crack team of creative professionals have been working on for me, so make sure you check back in then! 🙂

Right now on Love My Dress, it's all about Cate and Andy, who tied the knot on 25th February at St. Mary of the Angel’s Church, followed by a reception at Porchester Hall in Bayswater, London.   These images were sent in by lovely stylist and wedding planing Jennifer of Jennifer Sue Weddings – thank you Jennifer!

Cate wore the most elegant lace 'Maimuna' dress by designer Charlotte Casadejus {who I adore, by the way}…

"The minute I went to see Charlotte, I knew I was going to wear one of her dresses the question was which one.  In the end, I chose a dress that was a combination of two dresses that were in the studio but there wasn’t an actual sample to try on, as it was a new design.

I had a number of fittings where Charlotte and her assistant Emma showed me the antique lace she had sourced from France, and together with their very talented seamstress Oksana they worked out where it would work best for my shape.  It probably was a bit risky in retrospect, but they were all so lovely that I completely trusted them, and it totally paid off!"

"The Bridesmaids wore dresses made from a vintage pattern by Rebecca Hayes a friend who is also a very talented seamstress.  The seemed tights and fur shrugs/coats were all their own…"

"I have to confess, I don’t really know a lot about flowers.  I knew the colours I wanted, and the type of effect, but that was about it.  I talked this through with Reg and Carmel Francis, showed them some powerpoint mood boards I’d put together, a picture of my dress, the fabric the bridesmaids were wearing and they took it from there.  Showing us pictures along the way so we were really clear about what they were going to do…"

"Again we didn’t have a fixed idea about what we wanted.  I talked Lucienne Ellis through our plans for the wedding, showed her mood boards, the dress and also found images of a selection of cakes we liked.  She took all this into account, along with the flavours we liked, and the number of guests, and designed the cake based on that…"

"We hired Jennifer from Jennifer Sue Weddings to help us with styling the event, set up, dressing the room and co-ordination on the day.  The venue was just one big empty room, we knew we wanted to create a more intimate feel, creating a reception area as well as the dining area.  We were only allowed into the venue on the morning, so there was no way we would be able to get what we wanted without getting someone in.

From the beginning Jennifer completely understood what we wanted, even when we struggled to articulate it.  It was amazing how she was able to take the vague ideas in my head and turn them into something tangible. She was assisted on the day by stylist, Louise from Re-Vamp…"

"As with most groups of people, some of our friends and family love really getting dressed up and other don’t.  We’d let our guests know about the theme, and suggested that for those who wanted they were welcome to reference the 20s, 30s or 40s in what they wore.  But for those who didn’t we wanted to provide them with something to get in the mood.  So the favours for everyone were props that fit with the theme – fake cigars, monocles, bow ties and moustaches for the guys. Headdresses, long beads, long gloves and cigarette holders for the ladies.  We got them all online.

I wanted the venue to feel like the reception area was the conservatory of a country house, and then when you went through to the dining area you would feel like you were going outside to dine.  So there would be lots of plants and flowers, with mismatched vases and pots that should feel like whatever available was out to good use.  Jenny was able to really bring this idea to life…"

"When we got engaged, we knew two things about the wedding – that despite us both being from London, we wanted it all to be really local, so nothing would be further than 10 minutes drive from the church (which was the same church my parent’s got married in, along with a number of my aunts and uncles) and that with two big Irish families, we didn’t want to have to make difficult decision between friends and family…"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"This is something lots of people said to us, and I am glad they did. It was just to make sure you make time for the two of you in all of the madness.  We found little moments throughout the day, and even made sure that on the Thursday before the wedding, we went out for dinner just the two of us, even though there were still loads left to do.  But it meant that we I look back on the day now, there are these moments of calm, where we were able to check in with each other and laugh about everything that was going on, and remember why we were doing it all in the first place. We both share a guilty pleasure for watching Poirot and other murder mystery programmes.

We loved the visual impact of the movie Atonement, with the 1920’s garden element, this was key for Jennifer to start sourcing all of the furniture, linens, vases and fine detail. She managed to find damask reversible screens to separate the room, which happened to be used in Downton Abbey…"

Huge thanks to wedding planner and stylist xxxxx, as well as wedding photographer Martin Hobby

"Martin made it so easy for two people who hate having their photo taken to spend a whole day having their photo taken.  I know I have said this a lot, but Martin and Claire his second photographer for the day, are really lovely and it was a pleasure to spend a whole day with them.

They knew how to get the best out of us, and when it was all getting too much.  I love that they got so many of everyone dancing and having fun, because that is the thing I enjoyed most about the wedding.  Not to mention that fact quality and artistry of the photos is amazing.  I’m just really glad we chose Martin to be our wedding photographer."

What are your thoughts on this lovely wedding my friends? Have a great, productive morning whatever you are up to – and remember to pop back at 10.30am lovely ones 🙂

Annabel
