An Ugo Zaldi Wedding Dress For A Lighthouse Wedding…

A wedding in a lighthouse? Who knew? 

It's always fun to feature the work of Owen and Charis Warrell of o&c Photography – the best wedding photographers in Wales!  I just adore this creative duo; they are kind, sweet natured and obviously talented behind the lens – they are a genuine pleasure to work.

This is the wedding of Aaron and Nerys that Mr and Mrs o&c were lucky enough to attend and photograph back in April this year at Nash Point Lighthouse – followed by a celebration ceremony at The Farmers Barns on Rosedew Farm in Llantwit Major – located in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales…

"We wanted to get married at Nash Point Lighthouse, which his along the same coast.  After much searching, Farmers Barns was a very lucky late contender – having looked an hour and a half further West for a venue a friend called us with the winning news, a venue, on a farm right by the coastline and only 15mins from the lighthouse, perfect!"

"We were close to asking a local farmer if we could borrow a field for a marquee but our dream was answered and Farmers Barns was meant to be.  The barn was just beautiful and sympathetically renovated allowing scope to do whatever we wished.

The owners Gaynor and Rhodri have worked incredibly hard to create the perfect wedding venue, a hidden gem along the Vale of Glamorgan coast, and they are the main reason we chose this venue, fantastic people who really care about what they do and would do anything to help…"

This wedding was a real family affair with several family members helping out across various aspects of styling the day…

"My sister Sharon McConnell was the florist as well as designing and making our invitations.  The main colour I chose for the flowers was the acid yellow of the linseed fields surrounding the farm.  A stunning vibrant colour that brought to life what otherwise was a pretty quiet scheme. 

The yellow ‘Billy Balls’ were used in the table centre’s and made very funky pins for the men!  Overall the flowers were relaxed, and seasonal…"

"It was a real family affair as my mother made the cake.  She has been making wedding cakes for many years but this was her first Lighthouse Cake!  It was mum’s idea to make this cake, which was just perfect and probably the most talked about feature of the whole wedding – everybody loved it!"

"My Ugo Zaldi wedding dress was from Huw Rees Bridal in Llandeilo, West Wales.  Originally evening gown designers which you could see from my dress, just a little different from the norm.

This particular dress was on the sale rack ready to go to the Birmingham bridal fair.  The only reason I pulled out this dress as I quite liked the idea of a one shouldered dress – on the hanger the dress didn’t really stand out.  It was the second dress I tried on and it immediately felt like me, understated and elegant.  An elegant ivory evening gown, which really suited the type of relaxed wedding we were planning.  More importantly this was the only dress that made mum cry, so it had to be a winner!"

"I walked up the steep stairs of the lighthouse to a very intimate service with immediate family/friends to a welsh song called ‘Ar Lan Y Mor’ (by the sea).  We also walked into the barn for a celebration service with all of our guests to another welsh song ‘Calon Lan’, sung by the Cowbridge Male Voice Choir – amazing!" 

"Owen and Carys, husband at o&c Photography make the perfect team.  We were recommended O&C by a photographer who we originally wanted only he wasn’t available and sent us to Carys and Owen, and glad we were. 

We were not disappointed by this talented team, from our first meeting through to delivering our photo’s they were fantastic; friendly, fun, discreet, creative, down to earth and professional, they have delivered photo’s that are ‘true’ reminders of our very special day.   They were just as excited as we were which was very sweet and showed they they care about what they do.  Would highly recommend them and most definitely choose them all over again.  We are hoping to catch up with them soon for cuppa!"

"We got engaged in September and knew we wanted to get married as soon as we could so seven months planning was more than enough time to pull it together.  Aaron’s proposal was a shock and very romantic, on the beach, a rainy day and he wasn’t even meant to be back in the country (he’s a commercial diver) so it was all a huge surprise.

Ever since it was an exciting build up to our big day and not even the weather could detract from what was a very special event…"

"Aaron and I wanted a big celebration/party with our loved ones and that it something with 100% achieved.  Guests have raved about our day ever since, which is a huge compliment to us, the hard work and our friends and family.  The most memorable part of the day was the celebration service in the barn with all of our guests – the choir was amazing and our guests loved every minute of it…" 

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"It was mainly instinct – I knew I wanted a venue that I could do whatever a like with it, it had to compliment a informal day and just have a good feel about it.  I didn’t have it planned out I just went with the flow and was confident it would all come together in the end.  It was a lot of hard work as it was all home made with the help of friends and family.

Stay true to what ‘you’ really want and envisioned.  Do not let anyone talk you out of what’s important to you.  Make sure that every elements represents you as bride and groom, it’s a very personal day and your personalities should shine through the whole day.  Ensure that your wedding day is full of the people that you want there and nobody else, it makes for a very intimate wedding regardless of numbers…"  

I would strongly encourage any Welsh brides to be to drop the wonderful Charis and Owen at o&c a note if you are looking for a wedding photographer.
