Sunflowers, Streamers and The Supremes ~ A 1970’s Diana Ross Inspired Wedding Dress…

Good morning lovers! I hope you had a really lovely weekend.  It's Monday, and whilst I'm a little later than usual (currently in London working and technology has not been on my side this weekend), I'm opening up with a lovely wedding as usual, this time, from bonny Scotland.

Kat and Gordon tied the knot on 14th July 2012 at Mar Lodge, Braemar.  I loved this wedding for the fact that Kat channelled her inner Diana Ross 70's disco diva to design her own wedding dress…

"I designed the dress myself. I work for a Fashion designer in London and my boss let me use our suppliers to make my dress, and source the fabric and embroidery. My friends at work also helped in terms of fitting the dress perfectly.

I love 60’s style clothes and had originally planned to have both myself and my bridesmaids in 60’s style dresses. Then somehow after much research and drawing, I ended up channelling the 70’s, Diana Ross and art deco all at once in my dress. We didn’t really want a ‘theme’ just a collection of stuff we liked."

I love that Kat's bridesmaids all wore original vintage dresses – sourced from various shops including Portobello Market and Ebay…

"I really wanted something a bit ‘disco’ with some jewelled
embroidery, when I was doing my research I was cutting out pictures of
the Supremes, Diana Ross and Penelope Cruise in ‘Blow’?!! I also wanted
to have some art deco styling to match my engagement ring.

I LOVED the
art deco style embroidery on the collar, belt and hair clip. My friend
Meghan made the design for me and helped me choose the best colours. My
friend Susan made the pattern for the dress too.

Everyone I worked with
were so helpful in making my dress it was a joint effort."

"Our Florist was 'Flower Vogue' of Banchory.
I don’t really know much about flowers in general, but sunflowers are my favourite
of all…"

"Gordon and I love music so the Record Sleeves instead of table
numbers were a nod to that. Gordon chose his favourite singles; I chose
mine purely on the record cover…"

"The fabric streamers were my sister’s idea, I just
chose my favourite colours and went with that. The Stag ballroom at Mar
Lodge was so impressive looking anyway we didn’t want to clutter it with
decorations. It has 2000 stag heads covering the roof!

"Our photographers were Sam and Sequoia from Mirrorbox – the best photographers you could ever want at your wedding!"Sam and Sequoia were absolutely great. They made Gordon and I
feel totally at ease and the pictures were amazing.

They were a breath
of fresh air compared to other wedding photographers we spoke to and
really listened to what we wanted. Just the right combination of fun and
cool. Love them."

"Although Gordon and I live in London we wanted a Scottish wedding
and Braemar is near where I am from in Aberdeen. It’s a place I spent a
lot of time as a kid."

"Gordon and I met when I was at uni in Glasgow and
working as a waitress in a cocktail bar (just like the Human League
song), Gordon worked in the record shop in the basement of the bar and
although we admired each other from afar we were both in relationships
with other people. Gordon moved to London, I finished uni and went
travelling then bumped into Gordon almost as soon as I came back. The
rest is history.

Gordon took me to Paris on holiday last April where he proposed
to me.

He had been planning the whole thing for ages, seeking out a
ethical ring designer, going to Hatton Gardens to do some research on
art deco style rings and asking my dad for my hand in marriage. We got
married a year and 3 months later."

"Gordon’s sister read ‘want to grow old with you’ the song that Adam
Sandler sings to Drew Barrymore in the film ‘The Wedding Singer’.  Gordon
chose this because he thought the words were sweet and we love that
film.

My brother, Neil, gave us a Scottish blessing."

"I asked my bridesmaids, brother, dad and mother in law all to make
or bring a cake. Everyone was worried no one would take one and we ended
up with about 15! We didn’t want a normal wedding cake so it was
perfect."

"My Auntie Helen made tablet which all my other Auntie’s and Uncles
were roped into wrapping and stickering. I also bought cancer research
badges for all guests in memory of my mum who died from cancer a few
years ago.

"Our first dance track was the first thing we planned. We chose ‘
Aint no stopping us now’ by Mcfadden and Whitehead. We wanted something
that suited us and this was something we both loved already."

"As bad as it might sound, we both agree we loved the party the best! We
had such a fun night and everyone was up dancing, it couldn’t have been
better. The whole day was brilliant but it was good to let off steam
after an emotional day."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Don’t worry about the little things. You really wont care on the day, just relax and enjoy it, it’s over so quick.

Our
wedding was very much about our friends and family as much as us, and
everyone chipped in to help. We stayed at Mar lodge the whole weekend
and it felt like it was our house for the weekend. Mar Lodge left us to
our own devices and were so laid back, it was perfect."
