Bridal Separates by Sally Lacock: An Exquisite and Elegant Collection of 2-Piece Wedding Dresses

A question I’ll often get asked goes along the lines of ‘don’t you ever get bored of weddings and working in the wedding industry?’  Perhaps it is difficult for some to imagine – being so immersed in a world of weddings and still feeling inspired by that environment every single day, but the straight answer to the questions is ‘no’. Never.  Of course I adore being able to share beautiful weddings with you, but I also take immense pride and satisfaction out of being able to support the businesses that make this industry – the wonderful creatives who bring something unique and special to the wedding industry and in being able to influence my readers to pay attention to these businesses – to ultimately, hopefully, become their customers.

I’m married to a fashion designer and understand from first hand experience how much love and energy is required to make a business like this, in industry like ours work.  It can be soul-destroyingly cut-throat and the competition is fierce. Intensely fierce.  Because of this, I have a great deal of admiration for the small, independent designers who are driven more by passion, than profit and follow a path that allows them to truly express their creativity and what they love.  These ‘authentic’ brands are what, in my view, makes the British wedding industry so very special.

We’re lucky at Love My Dress to be able to support a number of these authentic brand designers – just check the banner adverts to the side of this page right now to see what I mean.  One of the designers we take absolute pleasure in supporting is Sally Lacock – a London wedding dress designer known for her beautiful, timeless, lace and silk dresses and excellent bespoke service.

Following a career at the high end of British fashion working for the likes of Betty Jackson, Margaret Howell, Jasper Conran and Liberty, Sally launched her first collection in 2010 and we’ve been supporting her and cultivating our fan-status ever since.  I’ve seen Sally launch the most beautifully feminine dress collections – you have to see and touch and feel these dresses in ‘real life’, they are quite something else – the kind that make you hold your breath momentarily in awe and the delicacy and absolute beauty at what falls gently from the hanger in front of you.

We’ve featured a few weddings now where the brides have chosen to wear one of Sally’s designs, and you can view our previous blog pieces on Sally here also. Today I’m so delighted to be able to share details of Sally’s effortlessly chic and utterly covetable new bridal separates with you.

“Ever since wearing separates at my own wedding in 2002, I’ve planned to design my own range of bridal separates, so having established my dress collection, it felt the right time to explore separates. For my own wedding, I wore an antique Indian bridal skirt, which I restored lovingly, and made a silk chiffon top to go with it.  The wonderful thing about this, apart from it feeling incredibly relaxed (very necessary for our cornish country house wedding – with a picnic and a ceilidh!) was that I have since worn both pieces. I hope this will be the case with my new collection, that brides will wear the pieces in their own personal way beyond the wedding day.

I’m really pleased with this collection, it is of exceptional quality and we’ve had a great response from the clients who have seen it so far.

Sally’s new bridal separates echo the delicately subtle vintage look the label is known for, and presents an exciting and thoroughly modern approach to bridal styling. The inter-changeable tops and skirts have been specifically designed to be combined in a myriad of ways to create a diversity of looks and silhouettes, offering a fantastic amount of choice and flexibility.

In this collection, Sally has played with tone and shadow, applying lace beneath and on top of sheer silks to create a whisper of subtle pattern. The gentle styling and soft flowing shapes lend an air of relaxed confidence. Now, I know that might sound like waffle talk, but the result is so utterly breathtaking and feminine.  These are dresses created by someone who adores making women look and feel beautiful, confident, elegant – all the ingredients required for a bride to have a wonderful wedding day experience.

But why buy separates? Why opt for a skirt and top rather than a traditional one-piece dress on your wedding day?  The ultimate allure of a 2-piece wedding dress lies not only in the ability to combine pieces to best personal effect but also that many pieces can continue to be enjoyed long after the wedding, teamed perhaps with a favourite pair of jeans or cashmere cardigan. Tell me the idea of that doesn’t appeal to you – and I won’t believe you, frankly!

Named after aromatic garden herbs, the new bridal separates pieces by Sally Lacock, offer an array of style ingredients for the bride to create her perfect individual look. Seductively exposed backs and flattering peplums can be paired with a tulle ballet skirt for a graceful look, or with a mixed lace separate for a more exquisite and opulent bohemian feel.

Strikingly sculpted cowl neck lace corsets, structured and soft at the same time, worn strapless with the clean lines of the the ‘Mace’ skirt, takes on a modern classic elegance. Add the grosgrain straps and it transforms to a delicately pretty wedding bodice – a perfect piece to achieve a different day to evening look.

There are slinky bias cut skirt and elegant halterneck blouse options too – imagine wearing the blouse with a pair of jeans and heels after your wedding for the ultimate in ‘take me back’ laid black glamour. I just love the idea of being able to re-wear your wedding day wardrobe in an entirely fresh and new kind of way. I actually think Sally has been super smart in creating this collection.
