Good morning all, and what an exceptionally beautiful day it is today, in the North East UK at least – a perfect way to start the day after the weather rather rudely interrupted a gathering momentum of sunny days with grey skies and downpours! I’m very happy to be sharing this morning’s beautiful wedding with you. Carrie who works in marketing in TV married her property developer James on 19th July last year at The Byre at Inchyra in Perthshire, Scotland.
“Our wedding was a mish mash of everything! We wanted it to be really fun and colourful with lots of personal touches.”
“Our flowers were done by the amazing Pyrus from Edinburgh. We were really blown away with what they created.”
Bridal separates are making a big statement right now. Wearing a skirt and top rather than a dress can be a really fun and super stylish way of responding to the usual wedding dress dilemma. Carrie’s ostrich feather skirt and silk cami top were both from Charlie Brear.
“I loved the drama of the skirt and the simplicity of the top – it was really fun to wear.”
“Our photographer was Zoe of Photos by Zoe. She was one of the first things we booked. She’s an amazing photographer who puts her heart and soul into each job. It really shines through in her photographs – she captured our day perfectly.”
“The bridemaids, flower girl and mother of the bride were driven to the venue in a VW campervan that we had hired for a trip around Scotland after the wedding. The bride and father of the bride were driven in a classic VW beetle.”
The bridesmaids wore Alexandra Grecco tulle skirts and embroidered tops from Topshop along with their own choice of shoes and accessories.
The groom wore a tailored outfit by 21st Century Kilts in Edinburgh. Not being Scottish he wanted a personalised outfit instead of hiring or buying an off the peg one.
“James and I met at work. We didn’t work very long together before getting together! We got engaged in Byron Bay on a trip to Australia and got married 18 months later.”
“We really didn’t want traditional wedding flowers and we had no particular colour scheme. We wanted to capture the farming surroundings and asked for the table flowers to include fruits, vegetables, herbs and wild flowers which looked incredible.
Pyrus also created a flower wall suspended on a branch as a backdrop to our ceremony and hung flower bunting throughout the rest of the byre. It was so beautiful.”
“We had an informal humanist ceremony which we wrote ourselves with the help of our fantastic celebrant Catherine Owen. She really encouraged us to do we what wanted and to make it as personal and non-traditional as we liked.”
“We had two readings – the first was the lyrics to the song ‘Love is Like a Bottle of Gin’ by the Magnetic Fields and second was ‘Union’ by Robert Fulghum.”
“The décor was mostly from the brides mum’s company, Carly’s Vintage Crockery. She had some amazing vintage lampshades which were hung above each table in the dining area. We had whiskey jugs for water, decanters, vintage cups and saucers, cake stands, crystal glassware and kitsch vintage salt and pepper shakers which the bride had collected over the years.”
“Our tiered cheese cake was supplied by our caterer, St Andrews Catering Company. Liz the owner was fantastic and really helped run the day… an absolute pro and managed to serve 130 perfectly made espresso martinis to our guests.”
“We toyed with the idea of creating our own photobooth but thankfully we discovered The Bygone Photobooth Company who were completely different to any other photobooth company we’d come across. Their equipment was cleverly disguised in vintage furniture which looked great in the barn. He owners run the whole thing and went as far as sourcing us some unicorn heads!”
“We booked The Jim Jam Ceilidh Band who played during the drinks reception, a ceilidh in the evening, and they also played a really beautiful version of 500 Miles, Proclaimers during our ceremony. After the ceilidh, Dawn Patrol played who were fantastic and got everyone up dancing.”
What a gorgeous gorgeous day! Fun filled and stylish and heartfelt and sweet and all captured beautifully on camera by Photos by Zoe – thank you so much Zoe, I do adore sharing your work.
Have a great start to the week,
Love Annabel x

Absolutely STUNNING work Zoe and what a gorgeous wedding day it was. Wow that dress <3
Beautiful! I adore her dress and flowers
When I arrived in the morning, and asked to see what Carrie was wearing on her wedding day – that silk camisole and ostrich feather skirt was STUNNING – it felt amazing to touch – and seeing how those feathers all moved so softy when Carrie walked – it was so so beautiful – I love how Charlie Brear designed the whole thing – just stunning.
Although we had some drizzle rain, that didn’t spoil the day one single bit – in fact, I think it made for a romantic, intimate atmosphere – seeing Carrie & James cuddling under an umbrella, and dancing in the rain 🙂 xxxx
Big love to you both – and a huge thanks to ALL the completely fantastic people I had the chance to work alongside on this special day.
Thank you so much Annabel, for sharing this, here on Love My Dress xxxxxxxx
