Happy Monday all – welcome to the start of a new week. My job as wedding blogger is to help make it all that little bit more lovely for you. Quick catchup first – did you read our first ever ‘from the heart’ post yesterday? And are you following Love My Dress on Instagram yet? One final question – have you booked your photographer yet? We have a competition coming up at lunch time today if not – keep your eyes peeled.
This morning’s wedding was held on the beautiful Northumberland coast – a place very close to my heart. Becky and David chose to tie the knot on 13th September 2015 at Newton Hall at Newton by the Sea in Northumberland – a venue that has featured several times on Love My Dress already.
“We wanted a style of wedding that fitted the venue, something classic with a hint of sparkle. I looked at Gatsby styles for inspiration but wanted to keep the colour palette soft and feminine. Newton Hall had a twist on the classic wedding venue. A large country manor with a quirky and luxurious feel. It’s also near the most beautiful beach which we wanted to use for photographs. We live in Sydney so we were keen to bring the beach setting into the photographs.”

Becky also wore a Johanna Johnson jewel encrusted cuff and rose gold heart bracelet – a gift from her mum on the morning of the wedding (something new). She teamed these with a beautiful pendant from her Nanna (something old and borrowed).
“The bridesmaids dresses were individually chosen by each girl to suit her style. I provided some examples for inspiration, greys, blues and pale pinks with some embellishment to tie in with the details on my dress. Their gowns came from Monsoon, Needle and Thread and Nordstrom.”
“My dress was by Australian designer Johanna Johnson. I bought the dress in the Paddington store near our apartment. It was Johanna’s ‘Mae’ gown’.
I love the elegant style of Johanna Johnson gowns. The fabric feels incredible on the skin. I loved the way it moved when I walked. The backless style was demure but glamorous.”
UK readers – Johanna’s official UK stockist is Browns Bride in London.
I choose a fingertip style. It was almost translucent so you could see the detail of the dress underneath.”
The couple hired the services of Pure Ground florist…
“We loved their natural and elegant style, which mirrored the Northumberland countryside; natural whites and greens with a hint of silver. I was blown away by the flowers on the day – they were more beautiful than I could have imagined. They made the stunning venue even more beautiful.”
“My Dad walked me down the aisle to the soundtrack of Canon in D major – a classical piece that is always played in the movies.”
“We wrote our own vows, David was struggling to write his but stayed up until 2am the night before the wedding. I just wanted to tell David how happy he made me and how much I loved his cooking.”
“We had two readings at the wedding – my friend Rosie wrote a piece that was extracted from a range of romantic poems. It was so personal and unique. It was called ‘Destiny is a Mysterious Thing’ – it’s a piece about true love being unstoppable and about carving a future based on dreams and adventure. Live the life you love.”
“Our second reading was a poem read by our friend Ernesto and was called ‘How Falling in Love is like Owning a Dog’, by Taylor Mali. It was quirky and funny. He picked it because I always talk about getting a dog.
The ceremony was magical, it meant so much to the both of us.”
“Our cake was by Cake Poppins – we opted for a naked cake (black forest with cream and cherry) decorated with fruit and fresh roses. It was delicious.”
The coupled turned to Jon of S6 photography (Sheffield based but shooting all over the UK and world) to capture their wedding in images. I’ve said it many times before but I adore sharing Jon’s work on my wedding blog, he is a skilled photographer and genuinely lovely guy…
“I loved his natural style. He captured the story of the day beautifully. He was great on the day and I barely noticed him taking pictures.”
“I loved the photographs on the beach – we snuck away for 40 mins after dinner to take some shots while the sun was setting. I was very fun and romantic.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“Get everything organised early on so you can enjoy the lead up to the day – the small things add up and take a lot of time.
Relax on the day and take some time to enjoy each other. It goes so fast so enjoy every minute.”
Absolutely beautiful! A perfect wedding to start the week with – I hope you’ve enjoyed these photographs as much as I have.
Love and thanks as always to photographer Jon for sharing his work – you can see lots more from Jon on Love My Dress here.
