Where to start when considering the groom’s suit?

“I usually recommend that the best place to start is good ole Pinterest or opt for Instagram and Google images. Build up a database of images to inspire you, search for wedding suits that are relevant to your venue or location and remember to consider the ‘style’ of the wedding and how your suit fits in to the whole day.”

“One of the most challenging issues of having your wedding suit made for you is not being able to try-on the suit until it is nearly complete. This is why researching images are so important because the ability to visualise your wedding suit and then articulate your requirements to your tailor will take out the stress of ordering a bespoke suit.”

Consider the bride’s dress

“One vital piece of information that is usually missing when ordering suits for a wedding party is the bride’s dress. A groom’s suit should be appropriate to the style of dress – after all most of the pictures will be of the bride and groom together! This is why we always recommend that the bride visits the shop on the first visit. The bride can give us gentle suggestions on the style of the dress without giving away too much information to the groom.”

Made to measure + bespoke

Jack Bunneys offer both a made-to-measure and a bespoke service. If you opt for made-to-measure, you’ll be measured on the premises by one of the highly skilled tailors and you’ll design your suit together by selecting everything from the cloth and lining to the design features that can include anything from buttons and lapels to monograms and a host of other options.

Your suit will be made in Jack Bunneys’ carefully selected European factory and you’ll also be gifted a pair of leather end braces too. For a bespoke suit, the process is similar except for this premium service, your suit will be hand-cut and hand-made right on the premises.

Made to order

You could also choose a made-to-order suit and this works just like ordering a wedding dress. You select your style in store and after you’re measured, the nearest size is ordered for you and is then altered when it arrives. The benefit here is that you can try on the suit before ordering. However, it’s the wedding suit hire service that is super popular at Jack Bunneys, as Marc explains:

“We design all of our own suits and accessories to go with them and each ‘range’ of suits will be designed to suit a style of wedding. For example, our ‘Newbury’ range is designed for the more rustic & outdoors styles of weddings, our ‘York’ range is our vintage inspired range and our ‘London’ and ‘Cambridge’ ranges are part our ‘Heritage Collection’.”

Suit Hire

“Our hire suits will vary in cost from £160 up to £250 per person and the hire period would be for 5 working days. We do prefer that each person attends the shop for a correct fitting because part of our service is to make sure our suits fit as well as they can.”

Whatever option you choose, your first visit to Jack Bunneys will be a relaxed and informal appointment where the couple attend and ideally, this will take place 6-12 months before your date. You’ll chat about your wedding and then enjoy a luxurious hour trying on suits. Unlike bridal boutiques, Jack Bunneys encourages you to take photos during your appointment so that you’ve got a visual reference further down the line.

Attention to detail

“Most clients come to Jack Bunneys because they’ve been attracted by the exclusivity of the unique designs,” says Marc. “But, once they’ve visited us, the product almost becomes secondary to the level of service they receive. Our clients often comment on the attention to detail of our service and the experience and creativity of the tailors who work with each couple really makes the experience a positive one.”

Consider the venue + wedding party

OK, here’s some absolutely unmissable advice for all the guys out there so boys, read and remember everything that comes next:

“When you’re choosing your suit, do your research. Look at real weddings at your venue and see what works. Form your own opinions because this is your wedding too! It’s exceptionally important that you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing but don’t be scared to be creative. It’s tempting to select a suit which is similar in style and colour to those you already own but your wedding day is a chance to be a little creative and push the boundaries.”

“Remember to consider how your suit will fit into the look of the wedding party as a whole and always involve your partner. This is actually my number one piece of advice and whilst it may seem counter-intuitive to share your outfit with your partner before the big day, I would always advise that you share!”

Less is more

And lastly, let’s talk about the rules – what are the big things to avoid when suiting and booting:

“Only wear one watch – a wrist watch and a pocket watch is one too many. Also, unless you’re marrying on a beach, you need to wear socks, even if it is fashionable to show a little ankle. Remember that jacket sleeves should NOT touch your hand – the shirt sleeves should just be visible from the bottom of the jacket cuff and DEFINITELY do up the top button of your shirt for your wedding day!”
