Choosing a wedding dress is such a personal decision. You want to feel beautiful, of course, but also comfortable, able to move and enjoy the day and be fully at ease in what you’re wearing. That understanding is at the heart of Sophie Rose Bridal, an independent Hampshire studio where Sophie designs and makes every gown to the measurements of the person who will wear it.
Her new collection brings together six romantic, relaxed made-to-measure wedding dresses: Hebe, Flora, Ivy, Clover, Rosa and Hazel. Each has its own character, shaped by its fabric, neckline, sleeves and delicate details. Before launching Sophie Rose Bridal, Sophie worked in the wedding industry, altering and crafting gowns for Nortier, and in luxury fashion with Libelula. Those experiences inspired her to create bridalwear with natural elegance, thoughtful craftsmanship and a personal connection between maker and wearer.
AI can generate an image of a wedding dress in seconds and I’m concerned to see established designers in our industry using entirely AI-generated campaigns; Sophie designs and makes every gown by hand in her Hampshire studio, a process that takes skill, time and care. I want to keep supporting independent designers like her, whose beautiful, thoughtful work keeps dressmaking skills alive.

The Need To Know
Sophie Rose Bridal is an independent British bridalwear label based in Hampshire. Designer Sophie Rose makes wedding dresses to order and to each bride’s measurements in her studio.
Before launching her label, she worked on bridal alterations and dressmaking for Nortier, followed by a role in luxury fashion with Libelula. Brides can explore the collection and enquire about a personal appointment at the studio.

What was the first spark behind the latest Sophie Rose Bridal collection?
All of my collections are created very much from feeling. All my brides come to me wanting to feel comfortable, like them but they’re most special so that’s exactly the kind of wedding gown I create.
They don’t want to feel like they’re playing dress up, just to feel beautifully them and that brings a unique kind of confidence.
Each gown has its own name and character. How did you shape the six designs so they feel individual while still belonging together?
Each dress from this new collection has been made from a different fabric and I think that makes a huge difference to how the dress feels, falls and moves.
Also, the different necklines, sleeves and delicate details will speak to different brides, allowing them to decide which Sophie Rose design feels right for them

A Dress That Feels Like You
Each gown is made to order and to the individual bride’s measurements in Sophie’s Hampshire studio. The designs can also be personalised: brides might change the sleeves, choose a different neckline or fabric, or bring together details they love from more than one gown.
As Sophie puts it, “It’s never about changing who you are to fit a dress. It’s about creating a dress that feels right for you.”
Thoughtful Fabrics and beautiful craftsmanship
The fabrics are part of what gives each dress its own character, shaping how it feels against the skin, falls and moves. Sophie works with natural fabrics such as linen and linen-silk blends, as well as fabrics made from recycled materials.
“I’m drawn to materials that feel beautiful against the skin and move naturally with the body,” she says.
What do you most enjoy about working closely with brides?
I just love seeing the quiet confidence being in their dress gives them. It has been fitted to them, not made and then altered, meaning a real level of comfort and from me understanding their proportions and what will be the most flattering.
It is such a personal experience and I love sharing that with my brides and their loved ones. Talking about their history, stories and creating a relationship that often means we stay in touch for years to come. Women are amazing!
In an age when AI can generate images of fashion, what do you feel is the value of human creativity and craftsmanship in bridal design?
AI can generate an image but it can’t create something real, something that makes you feel wonderful when you wear it, something that is fitted perfectly to your unique body and something that will have the most special memories attached to it every time you see it.
Knowing exactly where your dress comes from, who made it, who designed it – it creates a connection that AI could never replicate. And I’d like to see AI learn to sew!

Why does it matter to you to keep dressmaking skills alive through a small, independent business?
Sewing is an old age craft and something that needs to be valued and continued. The kind of wedding dress that you can buy from a dressmaker could never be found through a fast fashion website, ones that are often made with thousands of others at a time.
Sewing, to me, means community, connection and fulfilment and how lucky am I to do that for a job. I just hope I will be for years to come!
