* Creating a magical moment with a wedding garter *
My superpower is creating a magical moment, between the bride and someone she loves, with the gift of a bespoke wedding garter…
I’ll listen when you tell me of the bride’s passions and dreams, turning them into a unique piece, with hand embroidery and carefully sourced elements, all stitched to the most beautiful lace and silks.
Recently I had a mother-of-the-Bride message me… Her daughter was having a destination wedding and Mum loved the dainty cotton, Nottingham lace of the ‘Butterfly Kisses’ garter.
Her daughter loved bees and worked as a midwife. The grandmother had passed away and they’d been close, something to remember her by on the day of the wedding, would be lovely. Also, the bride had her ‘New’ and ‘Borrowed’, but still needed her ‘Something Old’, a lucky sixpence bag would be perfect.
Their names were to be embroidered inside in gold, along with the wedding date.
She wondered was that too much to be included in one piece?
Designing a bespoke wedding garter
I really enjoyed making this wedding garter! So special, when it was completed, it was beautiful…
Using soft cotton Nottingham lace with a floral design in ivory, just 3cm deep, I took time, embroidering a bee by hand, at the centre. Sourcing a fine silver stork charm, carrying a baby wrapped in a blanket, this was stitched to the left side with the tiniest cream bow and pearl (representing the bride’s midwifery). To add balance, I made a sixpence bag in matching lace, just large enough to hold the silver sixpence. It was also gathered with a cream bow, like the one with the stork, but a small angel charm was added, in memory of her grandmother. This was stitched to the right side. The lace was scattered with tiny 2mm crystals, adding a little more sparkle to the wedding day! Then inside, I embroidered the happy couple’s names and their wedding date.
She cried when she saw how beautiful it was
When it was delivered, the mother-of-the-bride, took a peek inside the luxury gift box, then she messaged me… She cried when she saw how beautiful it was, how all the elements had been included and couldn’t wait to give it to her daughter, knowing she would love it too 🤍

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do brides wear a wedding garter?
😍 It’s tradition for brides to wear a wedding garter…It’s considered lucky, it’s fun and romantic, plus it makes you feel just a bit cheeky knowing it’s hidden under your dress😍
Why do some brides wear two garters?
😍Traditionally, the bride wore her garters to hold up her stockings, so she wore two… Wedding guests thought it was so lucky to have something from the bride, they would try to tear small pieces from her dress (You can’t imagine it can you!) So the ‘race for the garter’ started. So keep her dress intact, she would sacrifice one of her garters to the winner of the race 😊 In 1820, a ‘race for the garter’ is documented, where guests would race to the brides house after the church ceremony, the first there could claim the prize of a wedding garter.
How high up do I wear my wedding garter?
😍 This is totally up to you, but if you intend having a garter photo, just 4″ above the knee is good… 😂 If you’re holding up a large skirt for your photo, you can’t always see from your position quite how much you’re showing off! If you don’t intend having a garter photo, just wear it wherever you feel comfortable.😍
