Frequently Asked Questions
Are your Ceremonies legal?
At the present time, there is a review of the Marriage Act and until the Commission has made a decision, a Celebrant led Ceremony is symbolic. Registering the Marriage can be done at the Town Hall, and for those who wish to marry legally from overseas, it is best to check with your Consul or local authorities. Licenced Venues in the UK do offer registration services, however it must be said that the service is restricted to a script that contains 32 declaratory and contracting words, in front of two witnesses.
So what does a Celebrant offer versus a Registrar?
While legal registration is important for the protection of marriage, a symbolic ceremony is of its own nature much more interpretative, personal, relaxed and joyful. The ceremony space can be anywhere, and ceremonies can be held at any time of day. I have held sunrise elopements and evening Weddings, as well as ceremonies on Bank and Public Holidays, such as Christmas and New Year.
The flexibility is total, the content is uniquely personal, and the format is a blend of storytelling and rituals that have personal meaning, as well as being inclusive. For example I speak two languages, and this offers a level of participation and inclusivity. Celebrant led ceremonies allow couples to express themselves fully on what is one of the happiest days of their lives.
My experience coupled with your style and vision bring about something that is absolutely special.
What is your process with us?
Firstly I have to check I have your date available, and if this involves travel, ensure I have a day either side of your wedding or elopement kept free for travelling and to ensure you have my full attention on your day. I would then schedule a video call with you lasting around 30 to 40 minutes, to get to know you, answer your questions, find out your vision and ideas and make a connection, one which means I will be taking this wedding journey with you! I then send you a full Quotation including my Terms and Conditions, and once you have checked that over, and I have answered any further questions, you pay a booking fee. The allows me to block your wedding or elopement into my diary and fix times to meet with you and timelines for the creative side – writing and drafting your ceremony! There is an interim fee once you have received the first draft and a final invoice around a month beforehand. The ceremony is discussed with you in detail using a Booking Form, and is formulated from responses you give me via a Couple’s Questionnaire. One the day I arrive an hour beforehand, to introduce myself to any professionals supporting you and to calm any nerves, check the Rings are safe and make guests feel comfortable. I am bilingual in English and German and often chat with German speaking guests or family who are not as fluent with English. It is always a great pleasure to be able to welcome family and guests. I ensure everything is on time, the ceremony is seamless, and afterwards only remain for photos and to present my couples with their Ceremony Script keepsake and personal thank you gift.
