Kingston Maurward is a magnificent Dorset country house wedding venue. Set in the heart of the Dorset countryside the Kingston Maurward Estate with its 18th century mansion house, lake and gardens are the idyllic location for romantic weddings.

Steeped in a rich history in Roman Dorchester, the estate lays claim to 19th century novelist Thomas Hardy’s early education where he was tutored in the Main House, which ultimately featured in his novel Desperate Remedies, as Knapwater House. His world-famous novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles, was based on a milkmaid who lived on the estate when Thomas Hardy was growing up.

With its parkland approach and elegant sweeping drive, the Georgian house and ornate rooms set the scene for a civil ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception.

Guests congregate in the Grand Hall or on the terrace overlooking the lake for drinks, and ceremonies are performed in the Pengelly Room with its exquisite hand painted Italian wallpaper; the Whatmoor Room can be used as a children’s play area or quiet room, and Maurward Hall seats 120 guests for a sumptuous wedding breakfast.

Kingston Maurward is also licensed to perform outside ceremonies in either the beautiful Red Gardens or at the Grecian temple, followed by a reception in the main house or a marquee on the terrace for up to 200 guests.

Kingston Maurward’s in-house chefs provide a contemporary menu to suit all appetites ranging from traditional finger buffets, to street foods and eclectic mixes, to full elegant silver service – all using local produce; guests will delight in the best modern of modern cuisine.
