For Lucy and Jonathan, it was all about Tweed and Feathers…

"We wanted the wedding to have a natural, English country feel and as it was outside at the Castle it was perfect! I had made a mood board with tweed, feathers, moss, butterflies and glass jars as I was looking around on lots of blogs to get inspiration and we stuck to the theme…"

Delicate Decor…

"Each table had a display of glass domes, sourced from car boot sales with moss, twigs and mushrooms we had collected from the woods.  We decorated them with butterflies and amazing origami shapes made for us by Joe, using paper from vintage books (including Alice in Wonderland and Treasure Island!)  I made paper flowers with my friend Caroline and decorated them with red, teal and brown vintage buttons.

Our table plan was designed and illustrated by my best friend and illustrator Emily Golden, and the order of service designed by her boyfriend Dave.

Jonathan lazer etched all of the table names (which we named after trees) onto wooden blocks, to match the style of our Wedding invites he had individually lazer etched and cut!"

Pass the Pudding – oh, and the Elderflower Champagne please!…

"We decided that rather than a wedding cake, we would have a mixture of our favourite puddings.  We enlisted the help of 3 of our best friends who made the most amazing deserts for us: Emily made cheesecake, Louise the Eton Mess and Moo made mousse (he titled it moo's mouse!).  We collected glass ramekins from gu puddings, and they each made 20 little puddings.

Jonathan then made a big 3 tiered cake stand out of cut sections of tree trunks he sanded down, on which to display all of the deserts.  We had a 2 course meal at the Castle so it was a perfect pudding/wedding cake!  Jonathan also made Elderflower Champagne, a Sturgess family tradition, for the reception drinks.  It was so tasty and everyone said how lovely it was."

Dancing the Night Away – with Vivien of Holloway…"

"I decided about two weeks before the wedding that I probably won't be able to dance much in my fishtail dress with a train, so I decided on the spur of the moment to buy a white lace 1950's dress from 'Viviene of Holloway.  I wore a friend's big red petticoat underneath, with bright red shoes and a big red bow my mother-in-law made for me.  It was so fun to dance in!

During the reception at Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel in the Marquee, we had a brilliant 'gipsy swing' band who are local to Bath called 'The Mandibles' – they were fantastic and got everyone dancing.

Our first dance was 'Great Heights' by Iron and Wine, and we did a 'bear dance' with me taking off my shoes and standing on Jonathan's feet! (we don't do proper dancing!)"

Not only am I loving the change of dress – I am LOVING the change of lipstick too Lucy!!!! I so LOVE strong red lipstick on a Bride 🙂 {why, I wore it myself!} ….

Words of Wisdom…

"If you are planning to make things, start now! We were still glue gunning things to twigs 2 days before the wedding!  On the morning of the wedding day, I was so grateful that I had my friend Jo at the house to do the bridesmaids hair and makeup, who was already dressed and ready herself .  I would advise anyone to do this as it meant that I could get myself sorted quietly, as I was so nervous and feeling sick, I don’t think I could have dealt with any hair or face issues!!

Once of the most special things for us was how many of our brilliantly creative friends and family got involved to help, either by doing readings or creating their own poems,  making origami, cutting out hundreds of butterflies, glue gunning decorations, collecting twigs, making deserts and playing music! We even had a song by the 3 best men which they have also recorded!"
