Vintage Wedding Dresses and Accessories, by Heavenly Vintage Brides…

This morning, I hand over to Helena Butler, specialist collector and restorer of vintage wedding dresses, via her company 'Heavenly Vintage Brides'.  Helena guides us through a selection of her new vintage hair accessories for the Bride…

My first love is vintage wedding dresses from all eras from the 20's to the 80's  and I have a great selection of these vintage wedding dresses at my studio, with a selection available to order online,  but I do love a dainty headpiece to set the dresses off.

Fortunately for me,  I meet the nicest people at the vintage wedding fairs that  I attend with my dresses, – just recently not one,  but two design companies have offered to create a small range of vintage headdresses just for me – how lucky am?!

Firstly I met lovely Abby and Debbie from Cherished Vintage Bridal Accessories, who make fabulous pieces using vintage jewellery  finds.  The sweet Bow Hairband ( £150) in the top three images below is unique, and works perfectly with the stunning 50's dress. Abby has offered to make some pieces for me which will not be available elsewhere and will be " one offs" . A headdress like the one here would work  with several different eras, diamante seems to lend it self to anything from the 30's, 40's and 50's.

The vintage dress  my model is wearing below, is by well -known American designer Emma Domb, who is a favourite of mine. It has a lovely 'off the shoulder'  fitted neckline, very flattering…

Some of my  dresses particularly suit Birdcage veils, fortunately for me a very talented milliner Helena at HT headwear,  has  made for me  an exclusive  range to go with my dresses.  I have used three of Helena's pieces with two different dresses;  the headpieces shown can be ordered in different colours, with a choice of an ivory band , white, champagne, silver/grey, or matched to your hair colour.

The two images below show a hair accessory  which combines  vintage jewellery with a detachable veil, this allows for the veil to be removed leaving the central jewellery piece with the hairband,  a lovely option to be able to change your look on the day.

The designs are shown here with a stunning satin 1930's vintage wedding dress from my collection, which has wonderful detailing, I love the delicate seams around the neckline of this dress, such amazing workmanship,  and the row of tiny mother of pearl buttons down the back. It is so dainty and perfect, and the glamourous birdcage veil  is so right with it…

The prices of the designs that Helena from HT Headwear has created for me vary, depending on whether they are made with Vintage jewellery or a modern diamante piece, but expect to pay around £125 to £150.

In the two images above, I have used a contemporary diamante headpiece.

In the two images below, I used a 1960's chiffon and silk dress by Jean Varon – he is also known by his real name 'John Bates'!  He is a British designer very well known in the 60's for his unusual but very wearable dresses.  This cute little knee length dress has a chiffon overlay and an ostrich feather trim at the hem, and is very chic for a 60's themed wedding, or maybe a 1920's 'flapper' influenced style wedding, or just a timeless elegant look.

Helena has combined diamante vintage jewellery below, with a birdcage veil and feathers to make something special for me.  I love the way Helena works she has a very light touch, everything looks delicate but makes a statement at the same time, which is just what I love !

I am so pleased to have a range of headdresses to offer , I see lots of brides at my home in West London, and at Vintage Wedding fairs,  and when they are trying on a lovely dress , I often think all they need now is a stunning headpiece to really '"set it off'.
