Vivien of Holloway 1950’s Inspired Colourful Retro Fashion Fun…

Time for a bit of a colour explosion on Love My Dress this afternoon – all thanks to up and coming Wedding and Portrait Photographer,  Ali Lovegrove 🙂

Ali Lovegrove is an up and coming Photographer on the UK Wedding scene, and last week she took part in a 'shoot swap' {lots of Photographers getting together to take photographs of fab stuff to showcase in their portfolios, basically!} and earlier this week she submitted these images – the result from her participation in the day.

I love how Ali's photographs perfectly capture the essence of dress designer, Vivien of Holloway's 1950's inspired creations, that include halterneck circle dresses, tea dresses, 1940s style swing trousers, and 50's style pinafore dresses, as well as the most outrageously fabulous petticoatsVivien of Holloway is a popular choice for Bridesmaids dresses for those Brides who favour the 1950's vintage style and her dresses are hugely price affordable too…

"Since starting my photography journey I hadn’t had the chance to delve into shooting anything vintage, so when I saw a shoot swap being run by Theresa Furey, I jumped at the chance to get involved.  The brief was simple; three gorgeous models all dressed to the nines in Vivien of Holloway dresses, gorgeously authentic 1950’s hair, make-up and accessories and beautiful luxury cars, it was a day not to be missed!"

"Our models were just fabulous, Chara Jackson-Allan, Melanie Armsden and Clare Hughes aka The Sugabilly Girls, are complete professionals and were experts at posing for so many different photographers, even in the rain, and were an absolute pleasure to work with.

They all had such different looks which really added to the variety of the photos we were all able to come away with.  All so glamorous in different ways, and all so authentically vintage to the last detail…"

"Our shoot began at the beautiful Malvern Priory, which is absolutely stunning. Here we photographed the gorgeous luxury Bentley and Rolls Royce while waiting for the girls to have their hair and make-up done, before splitting off into groups to photograph the models individually. Rain certainly halted play on more than one occasion but with so many lovely locations and backdrops available to use we refused to let it stop us for long!

We then headed to The Abbey Hotel to dry off, have some tea and scones, and carry on shooting our beautiful models. Not a moment was wasted and everyone worked together so well to get the shots we wanted to create. It really helped the flow of the day that everyone gelled so well as we could take our time with the models and come away with beautiful images of such a wonderful day…"

"We took whatever rain free time we had to shoot in some fabulous locations, including the beautiful Winter Garden close to the Priory. I think the weather really added to the day and created such a fun atmosphere. Our last stop, literally, was Great Malvern Train Station where we all enjoyed being really creative with the posing of our models and working together to create some fabulous scenes. Despite the strange looks from some of the travellers, especially the giant horde of people that arrived half way through our ‘girls in the doorway’ photo we had a great time and a really good laugh…"

"Despite this being my first chance to do a vintage shoot I am so pleased with the photos, the models look gorgeous, their dresses and styling really make the images and I would love to embrace much more vintage photography in the future. I felt like I was transported to another world, another time and I loved being lost in another era just for a day.

Huge thanks to  Theresa for hosting the shoot, she did a fabulous job organising us all on the day and getting involved too, especially being eight months pregnant!"
