What Katy Did Next ~ Pretty Headpieces, Shoe Clips, Cake Toppers and Garters…

Morning! Let's hope today goes better than yesterday did {for me anyway, darn that Monday thing!}.

I'd like to focus on accessories this morning and in one accessories designer in particular who I'm really keen to support through Love My Dress – Katy Howieson.  Katy is a 'localer' for a start, a Northern girl with a fledgling business What Katy Did Next that is doing remarkably well for itself already.  And it's not surprising because Katy creates really pretty, original headpieces, shoe clips, cake toppers and garters, all made with love and a sprinkling of that something special that makes them feel they were made just for you.

This little collection of images represents some of Katy's latest designs which focus on four different styles; bohemian, classic, romance and vintage.  All the accessories seen on this page can be purchased on Katy's Etsy store…

"Due to the bespoke nature of my work, no one piece is the same. A lot of the materials used within my pieces are irreplaceable such as the vintage lace. My Website showcases the headwear with a guide price so that custom orders can be made, and as the pieces are made to order they are easily changed to match each brides requirements…"

"While I love making beautiful headwear, I also have a lot of fun creating other wedding accessories. My love bird & peg doll cake toppers are hugely popular at the moment, with couples being able to personalise styles, colours and fabrics.

My shoe clips are a hit with bridesmaids and I have recently added garters and ring pillows to my list of products…"

"During the making stages of my collection I began to think of how to present my handiwork, I adored all the
inspiration shoots found online and I had a handful of friends in the area that had their own creative businesses. After a series of chats I had offers from a few companies loaning me props/cakes etc.

I got in contact with the lovely Beth Mottershead of Cakes by Beth, and she agreed to send me some beautiful macaroons and cake pops from Manchester. Unfortunately the macaroons were completely ruined on their journey through the mail – which was heartbreaking after all Beth’s hard work. However, to my surprise Beth turned up on my doorstep the day before the shoot with a second batch of her amazing treats. I was completely gobsmacked by this lady’s generosity and cannot thank her enough…"

"The rest of the plans were not completely smooth, with the florist dropping out five days before the shoot leaving me to arrange bouquets myself – which I admit I quite enjoyed! We shot my collection in the amazing garden of Fiona & Terry – family friends of my beautiful model friend Alex, the weather was scorching and it was a long day, but the pictures taken by Sally Thurrell were definitely worth all the hard work…"
